What's your Windows text editor of choice?

I use EditPad Lite (there is a Pro version which is obviously paid). I'm not sure how it compares to Notepad++ but it may be worth checking out?

Technology based charities? Community powered charity auction?

No wonder Free Geek rings a bell! Did a quick search and remembered that I had come across the website for the Toronto chapter here when I was looking into Freecycling a long while ago.

U.S. judge rules search warrants extend to overseas email accounts

I actually debated over changing the title when I was about to post, but in the end I decided to go with the original article title instead :)

U.S. judge rules search warrants extend to overseas email accounts

Perhaps give them a cocktail of these instead?

U.S. judge rules search warrants extend to overseas email accounts

Nope, nor is it made of bone ;) Just tissue that's engorged with blood when a man is sexually aroused; that's what makes it stiffen into a "boner". Therefore no amount of flexing will make it grow any bigger-- or impress the ladies.

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

This is getting beyond ridiculous.  For all that people slag on GVH and its teenaged chief of operations running the joint, I think whoever that is launching this DDoS attack is the real child here. The earlier compromise (and I do consider it to be a compromise, irregardless of their own...

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

Apparently GVH is "receiving a large Layer-7 DDoS attack" at the moment.

U.S. judge rules search warrants extend to overseas email accounts

They're also trying to subject companies overseas to US laws (see one such example here, though not quite related to the article I posted):  "AACS further points out that the scope of the injunction isn’t too broad at all. According to the company, the Copyright Act allows for such measures in...

U.S. judge rules search warrants extend to overseas email accounts

Internet service providers must turn over customer emails and other digital content sought by U.S. government search warrants even when the information is stored overseas, a federal judge ruled on Friday.   In what appears to be the first court decision addressing the issue, U.S. Magistrate...

What are you listening to right now?

Also this one (the translation is pretty wonky but you should nevertheless get the gist of the song): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GLasBYDLNQ

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

What did the logs look like from the original midnight event? Were the same IPs behind the emails, or did it show different IPs?

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

If it's this obvious that a couple of suspicious IPs were behind the WHMCS tinkering, why did they initially explain it away as a WHMCS bug?

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

Sorry about that! Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing an official explanation on the matter, especially after they initially placed the blame on an out-of-control cronjob. Since the comment about them making an official statement "soon" was made over six hours ago, I hope it won't be too...

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

Ahh gotcha. In that case I wasn't too sure who started it, though my guess was @serverian since I noticed the banned user icon when I was skimming through the updated threads just now.

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

lol. But in all seriousness, I'd suggest being more careful with your words; people might actually take you seriously. :P

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

That's interesting... the timing is quite odd too, I remember at some point last night there was an onslaught of old GVH threads being dug up over at LET by a few members who I guess was taking the "LET = GVH" joke too far. I don't see most of those threads anymore so I'm assuming the admins...

GreenValueHost forced password reset - Security breach?

I'm a former client (canceled sometime in early March) and I didn't receive any emails about my password being reset, just the one email that was sent out informing people they were investigating the issue. Is this only happening to people with active services?

    Domain Registrars?

Another vote for NameSilo here. Their prices are low, they do not charge exorbitant renewal fees, and I also appreciate their free WHOIS privacy and various security measures.

    Thinking about not using paypal.

I try to use Paypal instead of credit card when purchasing online wherever possible. If I don't see it being offered as a form of payment, I usually ask myself: How much do I trust this vendor with my personal information, and is it worth using my credit card for? I've only used my credit card...
