    Incero Review - AVOID

Three thoughts: 1.  TCP throughput degrades significantly with increases in latency due to windowing.  There's a bunch of tweaks that can be made to improve throughput.  (This is why large test files show a better picture than small test files on file downloads). 2. SCP performance should not...

    High Availability

there are additional options, such as IPVS.  it depends on what network layer you need high availability at. people should look at Pacemaker and coroSync, see http://clusterlabs.org/ for more information -- it's what is used for serious clustering on Linux these days.

Cheapest place to get a 1-800 number?

les.net lets you buy 1-800 numbers for $2.50 per month and 4 cents per minute, i've had good luck with them in the past.

    Yet Another SolusVM Alternative: VPSM

Yes, it is possible, but you shouldn't do it this way.  Instead use a setuid-helper binary for things which absolutely need setuid. That way you have a reduced attack surface.

Latency monitoring of common DCs and hosts

Added. Smokeping statistics for ShoveHost Smokeping statistics for BetterVPS Are these official test IPs?  I don't want to monitor a customer VPS and then have it go poof later.

    Yet Another SolusVM Alternative: VPSM

If you intend to do it this way, you can put them in a special shell to force them to use your API.  See git-shell and other such things.

Latency monitoring of common DCs and hosts

Hi guys, As a side effect of monitoring the performance of my own network, using Smokeping, I realized that I actually have a lot of useful data on the latencies of other providers. You can find the Smokeping instance here: http://monitor.tortois.es/smokeping/smokeping.cgi If you want me to...

    Unmetered bandwidth

All of our locations provide unmetered bandwidth, with at least 20mbps guaranteed on-peak.  There is dedicated gigabit to each node in our on-net locations (everything other than OVH).  Pricing starts at $7.50 with 30gb disc.  I'll probably post a vpsBoard-specific offer soon.

KVM vs Xen for the end-user

Actually the best practice here is to use PV-GRUB to avoid arbitrary execution in the domain-0 environment.  PV-GRUB safely loads and executes the VPS kernel inside it's own domain instead of running python code in domain-0 to copy it out to a temporary location.

    CVM Update/Q&A

Where did he say this?  I've known joepie91 a really long time and it just doesn't seem like something he would do.  But, I could be wrong.

With the development of new alternative panels soon to hit the market...

Indeed, Francisco -- without a concrete plan to make a minimum viable product, I agree wholeheartedly that each product will fail. I also agree that there is likely not much money in the VPS panel market.  I think SolusVM is a smaller operation than it appears, and they basically made all their...

    Introducing Levarion: Billing/VPS/Dedi/Cloud Panel

MongoDB has had an atrocious security record with DoS vulnerabilities caused by malformed BSON and JSON payloads.  Nothing wrong with NoSQL, I'd just rather use CouchDB or something with a more robust availability record.

    LeaseWeb wipes MegaUploads data!

Hmm, maybe I should buy a couple of LeaseWeb servers and see what I get on the drives... I suspect a lot of dedi providers play fast and loose with wiping data actually.  I have gotten drives that had valid filesystems on them before from some providers.

Do you support bitcoins for payments?

Honestly I think there is not much incentive to abuse services bought with Bitcoin.  As there is no way to regain the bitcoins after the service is terminated, most people want to get their money's worth from it. At least, I haven't seen any elevated abuse complaints with it.

Do you support bitcoins for payments?

We successfully accept bitcoins. Fraud (at least in the sense of 'being chargebacked') is not possible with Bitcoin, so I am not sure Maxmind-screening them is really necessary.

    Yet Another SolusVM Alternative: VPSM

Yeah that's probably what I would do, but on the Xen front, libvirt has problems with the XL toolstack shipped in Xen 4.2 still.  Hopefully the newest version of libvirt will get that sorted.

    Introducing Levarion: Billing/VPS/Dedi/Cloud Panel

There's certainly nothing wrong with having a CRM as a Java application running in a servlet container... the part that makes me question the success of this product is the MongoDB usage, really.
