Ksplice itself is free software.  If you want to use it with something other than Oracle Linux, you just need the new source and the source of the currently running kernel. A quick google leads to these instructions for doing the whole thing...

Primarily because there's no overhead due to virtualization (since it's not virtualization at all).  Price is definitely a factor, but KVM prices are certainly falling, so that's really not much of a concern these days, and with KVM templates, reinstalls are quick too.

As a customer, I usually choose OpenVZ unless I have a compelling reason to use KVM (such as needing a custom kernel or kernel modules, or wanting to run something other than Linux).

I've got a Galaxy S3 running CyanogenMod 10.2 nightlies.  It works well enough for me.  I don't need a huge screen, since I don't really do any "work" on my phone.  Anything bigger would just be useless for me.

zsh + GNU coreutils + nano = everything you need to manage a server. It's fast, lightweight, extremely powerful, and easy to set up. :P

I would split the money between Debian, KDE, and a few other projects that are worthy - ideally, smaller projects that show a lot of promise.

htop in Debian (both squeeze and wheezy) already have this built in and enabled.

I've had absolutely 0 problems so far with WSI in the few months I've had a server with them.  Support has been top notch, even replying quickly on the weekend.
