$200 if somebody can solve this IP problem.

Here's a hacky (possible) fix iptables -t mangle -I PREROUTING -i ethx  -j TTL --ttl-set 1 Not a great idea to do for all traffic so you may want to specificly match the problematic IP. Additionally you want to only choose inbound traffic (outbound traffic will still need a high TTL)

Yet another scan for open relays

You could probably have some fun and TARPIT them instead of resetting the connection. Wastes their resources and has the same effect.

IPTables GeoIP, Port Scan Detection and Port Knocking using xtables-addons

This is a bad idea. You should always keep SSH on a port below 1024 so only the root user can listen on it. And before you say "if ssh is already running a non privileged user won't be able to listen" - what if SSH crashes? What if the attacker finds an exploit to cause it to crash?

Why do you see DD as a necessary part of the script?

Why not just monitor iowait and steal time instead?

    DD Script

And so you should. DD shouldn't be run to test write speed unless you're using it as one of several methods to prove a problem to your provider.  The only time you should even consider releasing that script is if it checks steal time and iowait to see if they're high before running the test...

Preventing Outbound DDOS - Infected VPS and Blocking Ports

In an ideal world that would be the case. Unfortunately there are people who will set their root password to "password" on the default port - etc. It isn't that hard to block automated mass SSH scanners though.

I Have a Business Idea for a New Type of VPS...But No Cash.

I did this two years ago with an hourly cron backing up to disk. Very speedy performance - but I don't see people buying it.

Future VPS Company Dead Pool Wager Hall

I'm a little surprised this thread exists here rather than somewhere like LET. And then I was even more surprised when it turned into a CVPS VS BuyVM shit throwing contest. Are we really debating who's going to go bankrupt?

NinjaHawk Purchased By One of the Giants* of the VPS Industry

It's possible there was legitimately a misunderstanding. I was banned on WHT for months because of a similarity between myself and Fizzadar - who I work with.  They gave little to no details - They simply said I was a duplicate account - I actually had to guess that was what the...

Feathur Launch (VPS Control Panel => 0.6.0.1 => Free For Private Use)

I've only given this a brief look over but it looks like you can change your own username to one that's already in use, Since the forgot password functionality uses email address rather than username that can't be exploited to gain admin access (unless you got lazy and just used the username in...

Training to become a more valuable asset for hosting related jobs?

I did CCNA during my honours degree and found it was kinda out of date and most of the stuff in it was useless.  Degree itself got me a job as a software developer at a company owned by GE Oil and Gas though so I guess that's ok.
