    iptables replacement incoming?

It has an iptables compatibility layer, lets hope its good. Some extra performance would be nice but not at the cost of rebuilding all the iptables compatible scripts & utils.

    lowendbox.com and lowendtalk.com down

We saw a weird DNS issue with a few domains hosted with two other DNS providers with Google Public DNS yesterday morning as well. OpenDNS and local ISPs where unaffected so maybe it was a glitch that Google solved.

    lowendbox.com and lowendtalk.com down

I have an SQL injection in my script.... its not broken now so I will leave it. That's an overly broad statement.

Features you'd want in a bash backup script?

I would like to extend my suggestion, ensure it is on github (or similar social coding site -- atleast once in a reasonable state) and try for a modular or extendable architecture (e.g supply scripts to be run before download, after download, before decrypt, after decrypt, .... on complete etc)...

    Ding! Dong! Santrex is dead!

I once saw a full months downtime, of course I had abandoned them by then (for BuyVM) but didn't cancel the subscription. 1 day after bill, dispute, and then lost. Now I really want to know what they said to Paypal to win their dispute, I am still surprised they managed to hold a Paypal account...

Features you'd want in a bash backup script?

hashing on the destination server and comparison after transfer (even if its in the protocol, so many things can go wrong). Encryption for transport and storage is also a must, preferably asymmetric with a verifiable signature.

    Ding! Dong! Santrex is dead!

Now I need a new comparison to use for bad hosts. "downtime like Scamtrex (Santrex)" was a very effective comparison for getting hosts to pick up their game.

Google Checkout ends November 20, 2013.

Personally I find it irritating that Google does not offer Google Wallet / Checkout to major countries in the EU and Australia. Its such a nice UX :(

Preparations to run an IRCd daemon

Get good DDoS protection. There is a large correlation between people who get easily angered on IRC and people who start DDoS's. There are reasons there are providers who offer DDoS protection and started out to host IRCs (e.g Sharktech). Also choose your provider carefully, ensure you have a...

Ad pulled from LEB --- SeFlow – €24/month 16GB RAM i5 CPU in Milan, Italy

LET does not tolerate any prices higher than the LEB cutoff regardless of if it is for dedicated servers or actually a good deal. I didn't see the post before it got removed but I imagine it was higher than $7-8 and thus got removed. I've had a similar situation with my own posts (where some...

    Electronics

I had that exact one! It was great but I ended up getting sick of it as I already knew how to solder at that time and who can beat circuits made from the leads of other components at that age? I owe my father for teaching me to solder and all those things. :) He used to be a phone techie at the...

    Running your own mail server

Its good for spam reduction :) Those spammers be always trying to target the lowest denominator. But seriously good howto, but I think I will stick with Zimbra. Never been willing to accept the risk myself. It would be nice to see integrated backup into the tutorial (e.g to Backupsy), I hate to...
