Unfortunately not always true. It's quite easy to change the host configuration to ensure that when people run these benchmarks and specifically the 'usual' dd test, that the figures come back looking great. These are never really an accurate way of measuring performance unfortunately.

Host. It's the only way I could guarantee enough control over safety, security etc.

Biggest problem is hosting client data on a system you can't control. To me that's the issue that stops me having any interest. If it was released for self hosting then I would give it serious consideration.
