    Monitors and RasPis

My old office did that with cheap Android sticks (search for "mk808") and later upgraded to Chrome boxes.  The Android sticks worked pretty well.  They ran their built-in browser permanently pointed at a web page we set up to display various status and alerts, updating a few times a minute...

List of reliable sub 20$ per year providers

Hudson Valley Host changed ownership a while ago (I don't remember the circumstances) so you might want to update. Lowendspirit NL is out of stock, maybe permanently ( http://forum.lowendspirit.com/viewtopic.php?id=442 ), but the UK location has a few available and Italy has plenty.

What are your RAM limits for different use cases?

I'd say with SSD storage, 128MB is enough for most of the VPS applications I can think of.  Ruby and Java are memory intensive, but Python, Go, Erlang, Perl(?), or of course C can run in fairly small footprints.  SSD takes the pressure off the file cache if you're serving a lot of static files...

Big RAM VPS - who actually uses them and for what?

This is not clear at all.  I've used a lot of 17GB and 34GB (I don't know why they size them like that) EC2 instances and I believe they're actually Xen VPS's running inside very large physical nodes, like 128GB or 256GB.  We also had some 256GB, 16 core physical servers that we ran LXC...

    Shared Hosting Under $5 Year?

https://my.freecpanelsharedhosting.com/ is Low End Spirit's shared hosting option.  I haven't tried the shared hosting but their 3 euro/year VPS's work amazingly well considering what they cost.

Big RAM VPS - who actually uses them and for what?

I've been involved (at work) in using large EC2 instances to host database servers.  They work ok for that, but are a LOT more expensive than the supposed 2GB $7/month plans we see on this board and LEB. I have a 1GB OpenVZ plan with ipxcore but I got it mostly for its largish disk storage.  I...

Bring out your crystal ball: Some IPv6 Questions

DJB wrote this around 10 years(?) ago and it seems to have predicted later events almost perfectly: http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/ipv6mess.html

In case you're wondering where your avatar went...

It has nothing to do with email: the privacy concern of Gravatar is the way the browser sends your ip addresses and referer url to the Gravatar server anytime you load any page that contains ANY gravatars.  It's just like google analytics beacons, facebook "like" buttons, etc.  As one of those...

List of VPS/Dedi providers using Colo Crossing

I'd say keep them on the list, just label them for clarity.  The info can still be relevant.

    The Good VPS Provider thread

    1. Ramnode - solid speedy vps, fast network, high resource allocation for the price.  My first all-SSD vps and now I don't want anything else except for bulk storage. 2. IPXCore - The tiny 0.50/month 32mb openvz plan is probably my most used vps even now (web proxy).  Dealing with them really...

    Opinion on pre-paying?

I like my dedis and larger VPS's to be paid at least a full month in advance.  With smaller vps's it's less of an issue to just pay the invoice that arrives a few days before the service will otherwise expire.  The concern is what happens if there's a snag with renewal, e.g. because of (common)...

96MB and smaller lowend VPS packages - the offer list

I have a 32mb vps with ipxcore and a 64mb with lowendspirit, and both work great.  The 32mb's don't really make economic sense for the host though, and they're no longer offered.  The lowendspirit box holding the 64mb's got a ram upgrade, so all new vps's on that box have 128mb, and users with...

What to use this extra box for?

Someone a few days ago, I think HalfEatenPie, was looking for a week or so of heavy cpu cycles to run some kind of scientific calculation on. I have my own dedicated server that I use for some long running computations (data analysis) and occasionally could use a second one (or more) to do a...
