With the 2014 year rapidly coming to an end, it's a good time to look back and review the industry events of 2014. What are some of the more memorable events of this past year that is worth remembering?

The VolumeDrive and Burst.NET fiascos spring to mind for me, although it was a pretty eventful year full of breaches, mergers, deadpooling, arrests and busts.

Top of my tired brain:

1. UGVPS revelations and confirmations. Fabozzi lied more about time he owned the brand, had other staff pretending to be Crystal and the financial mess it all created.  That was initially September 2013 story here, but revelations flowed in 2014.

2. Burst.net's mass failure and the doubebag new money idiot that took it over. Glad I punted that idiot.  Wish the guy still owned it so we could have a long game of mercy or some broken mitts.

3. Spamhaus loves Colocrossing and their Top 10 showing as shitty network for a while.  Encouraging network owners everywhere to block them.

4. Various Lowend providers selling, drowning or bailing.

There are more.  I'll probably rearrange my list.

Wow it's already the end of the year.  Time passes by so fast!

I personally want to focus on the positive rather than the negatives and all the drama, so I guess (while not fully/solely the VPS Industry) the Gamers Impact Charity Fundraising event.  Was all out awesome, totally baller, and pretty much fun.  I know it sounds like a promotion or an ad but it's something I'm really super excited about and I really enjoyed.

For me personally (and not that much industry related), I guess I really enjoyed spending 4th of July with the awesome crew at Incero in Austin, Texas.  Was definitely one of the highlights of my trip back to the States.

Looking back, it was a fun (and incredibly busy) year!

Online.net and OVH Kimsufi cheap dedis. Obviously why settle for vps when at the same price you can get a dedi.

Here are the top 3 jokes of the year, some of which are pretty horrifying moments.

  1. ZenevaHost Timothy scam. Will never forget that one... (RamNode was involved in this IIRC)
  2. ColoCrossing's announcement of DDoS protection that cannot even protect themselves from spoofed UDP that comes from non-existent IP ranges.
  3. All the SSL/TLS and OpenSSL exploits and shits.
What a beautiful year.

Dormant VPSB Pathogen
1. 10 year old VPS migration specialists take the VPS world by storm!

2. Biscuit the dog gets doxxed!

The low end crap pyramid scheme business model pioneered by Fabozo stops working due to a combination of cloud pricing wars, sub $10 dedis, the emergence of several low priced providers who offer a solid product and good customer service,  and customer dissatisfaction with the crappy performance and downtime offered by the 2Gb//$7 3GB/$3 overloaders.

Ones that come to mind at the moment ...

Stirred the headlines, not necessarily in a good way:

* GVH, multiple personalities and mention of suicide

* GVH, Pantoric and data leak

* INIZ change of ownership

Good ones:

* Launch of dirtcheap.ninja (with fan art!)

* BuyVM new LU location launch :)

* LowEndSpirit JP location ("green circle heaven")
