How do you do central monitoring of your VPS'es around the world?


I installed Observium on my homeserver the other day and I have the intention of adding offsite systems to it. But how do you manage the infrastructure in a case like this?


Do you use a "management VPN", or have SNMP open to the world on your machines?


An other way parhaps?

I'd suggest tinc. You can create a mesh VPN to all you servers over an encrypted wan/lan without being open to the whole internet.

If you have a relatively static IP, you can limit the firewalls and snmp service to your own IP address.

Another option, if you leave your ssh connections open to your virtual machines, would be to use ssh tunnels.
