Do you guys use FraudRecord or similar blacklists?

Was curious if people here use FraudRecord to deny incoming orders from customers with a history or if you report your trouble customers. I love the idea in the theory but I'm sure it could be easily abused by hosts too. Is that project still going strong?

We use FraudRecord regularly and it's saved us a lot of time and headache.

Fraudrecord has its quirks, but we still use it to post-verify orders and keep an eye on those customers who has some Fraudrecord history. We also contribute to the database when we catch abusers.

It's another tool in our arsenal... there's a lot of reports from butt-hurt pump n' dumps, but the reports from established companies have merit and are useful.

This. FraudRecord isn't a magic bullet that fixes all fraud but it's very useful when used in tandem with Maxmind, manual account review, and common sense.

I see you guys are in the FraudRecord sample:
That's a good sample. When you see a report like that I can guarantee the client will cause you problems. Unfortunately, that sample also shows the problem with FraudRecord, it's completely subjective as some hosts marked the severity level for that client as a "5" (1 being "low offense" and 10 being "highly dangerous") so the real important part is in the details which that same provider just wrote "spammer" leaving the rest to the imagination. While I admit the information I wrote wasn't as detailed as I normally provide, it does backup my claim that the client was indeed a spammer so future providers who query that user can see my report was legitimate (although in reality nobody has any reason to ever trust anything I say since it is the internet, I still like to think that with enough detailed information the picture becomes more clear).

I contribute to it, but so far all the spammers/abusers I've had aren't on Fraudrecord. But hopefully it'll get built up soon.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. We are in need of a HB module that we can release to the public, and if you have a developer who can create one, please contact me.

We have a custom written frauding system. It's working out great for us! Basically anyone who places an order that we see fraudulent people will no longer be able to order for that IP and from that email address. (By abuse do you mean people would purposefully place fraudulent orders to block others from ordering from an IP?)

A couple years ago I remember a lot of folks giving Fran hell for letting me be so strict with my fraud checks.  Now everyone wants to be on board :p

Seriously though, it's good to see an initiative like this gaining ground.

I am not convinced this FraudRecord stuff is a good plan.

Consider hosts deciding to trash customers who leave.  At the very least, I think a person should have the right to request their FraudRecord file and dispute entries on it.  It also seems that various international consumer protection laws (such as the US laws related to consumer reporting) would come into play here too.

As you are collecting data on users, you may be held legally responsible for the data in various ways...
