KVM and "Burst RAM" mentioned together?
    Is it KVM or OpenVZ?

I'm pretty sure it's KVM and that it's just a typo.

Technology is moving ahead in the virtual world some of the stuff that is coming out is really exciting. We are working on building a oracle cloud with nimbula director or another one that we are having custom built.

Very Stable software redundant and great on managing resources and data.

@Enterprisevpssolutions still, why play games with customer's KVM RAM?

    Page Sharing or Memory De-Duplication

VMware patented this process. The base Linux kernel in 2.6.32 has added a similar feature in KSM, and the ksmd daemon, which runs in user-space and can de-duplicate memory across different processes. As KVM VMs run as processes, KVM immediately benefits from this.

Again it looks like the community Xen 4.0 hypervisor supports KSM for HVM guests, but not PVs and this feature is not present in XenServer 5.6.

Since KSM is relatively new code in the Linux kernel, it is going to be less tested than VMware

They have the option once they get the bigger packages. I have a lot of client that love that package but if they require more memory then it becomes dedicated. 512M is really fine for some but if they require a burst here and there the ability is there for them.

So it is memory ballooning, I see. "Burst RAM" is firmly associated with OpenVZ. "Ballooning" is the term for Xen/KVM.

Doing any kind of ballooning is a bad thing to do. We don't do it at all either with Xen or KVM. The customer gets what he pays for.

Ballooning Is only setup for the budget system which comparing the results in test runs the same as if the memory is dedicated in any of the other platforms. As long as you don't oversubscribe the node then what the client orders for dedicated resources he receives. Just because the technology is there doesn't mean its used for everything as its enable at the kernel level not just the cp. Its the same for cpu resources when subscribing to clients on a node with 24 CPUS and you have 30 clients each with 1 cpu then its overscribed only if the cpu resources are all used at once same with memory its all about management and balancing resources.  B)

I wasn't here to bash you, you see. Just suggested another term.

    Good luck, in any case.
