Action needed: Greenqloud's Public Cloud Decommission

Dear Greenqloud Customer,

As a reminder: Greenqloud's public Compute Qloud™ and Storage Qloud™ services will be shut down on 1st of October, 2015.  After that, all instances and data on the system will be destroyed.

Only a few weeks remain for you to transition to a new provider; we urge you to consider alternative options immediately.

Our updated FAQ outlines the next steps you should be taking at this time and has information about things like backing up your data.

Looking for an alternative provider?

For a familiar, sustainable option, Advania’s OpenCloud (powered by Qstack) is a great choice, offering the same easy-to-use interface, plus upgraded key features like up-to-date OS templates and optional managed services.

Advania’s support team can help coordinate a smooth transition of your Greenqloud instances to their OpenCloud platform in just a few easy steps! Click here for more information about the process and get started.

But I don’t have anything running!

If you're not currently GreenQloud public cloud services, we recommend closing your account to avoid receiving further direct communications from us:

  • Log into the dashboard at my.greenqloud.com
  • Navigate to 'Account' > 'Profile' > 'Close Account'
  • Our support team will notify you via email when your account is closed; for any remaining unpaid usage, you will receive a final invoice after the current billing period closes.
As always, if you experience any issues with your existing account, please send in a ticket; our Support Team is available 24/7 to help, and will respond promptly should you need assistance.

Kindest regards,The Greenqloud Team

Greenqloud closing down
They're discontinuing their public cloud services (ComputeQloud and StorageQloud) which account for just a small portion of their business but Greenqloud the company is not shutting down.  They decided to close the public cloud because they didn't want it to be in competition with the public cloud offerings of their customers who offer services that are based on Greenqloud's primary Qstack product.

This is the original announcement from March 25th:

Announcement about GreenQloud's Public Qloud Services

Dear GreenQloud Customer,

Our Truly Green\s Public Cloud was launched to provide individuals and businesses with a sustainable, scalable, and cost-effective cloud solution that\s easy to use, complete with 24/7, top-notch customer service.

We\re proud to have been the pioneers in sustainable IT, and are grateful for your continued support of our vision. The next step toward ensuring the scalable adoption of sustainability practices, as the industry continues to lean toward embracing renewable energy, is through the establishment of multiple green public clouds.

In 2014 we introduced QStack\s, our multi-purpose software solution for private, hybrid, and public cloud deployments, targeted at enterprise organizations and service providers. Following an overwhelmingly positive reception, GreenQloud has quickly extended into new segments of the industry.

What\s happening:

QStack provides an excellent solution for service providers looking to offer their own public cloud services, broadening the market with more choices, including equally sustainable options with more features than we currently offer in our public cloud.

As we do not wish to hinder this adoption by competing against our own customers, we have decided to focus our expertise and resources on QStack - continuing to bolster its position as the best IT infrastructure management solution available.

This means that we will be discontinuing our Compute Qloud\s and Storage Qloud\s services later this year, and plan to close public cloud operations by 1st October, 2015.

What this means for you - timeframe and next steps:

We understand that moving operations to a new provider is no small project, and have put together the following outline covering the next 6 months to assist in the planning and transition process.

**Well communicate with you regularly throughout this period, including confirming and negotiating exact dates for critical events in order to minimize interference with your own business operations.**

By 31st March, 2015:

As a first step, we\ll be closing the registration process for new customer accounts.  It will not be possible to create new GreenQloud accounts after 31st March.

Existing accounts will not be affected by this, and will remain active.

Before the end of April 2015:

To help you review alternative solutions that fit your cloud resource requirements, we will provide more information about providers offering services powered by QStack:

Their services include more versatile features than those currently available on GreenQloud\s environment.
They may provide additional resources, such as support for managed services or private cloud hosting options.

May - September 2015

Customer transition to alternative cloud providers.

Additional information or assistance in transitioning to GreenQloud\s cloud provider partners will be provided where possible.
Efforts will be made to work with our customers and accommodate scheduling requirements where necessary to help ensure minimal business disruption.

1 October, 2015

Planned final decommission of Public Compute Qloud\s and Storage Qloud\s services.

As mentioned previously, you will receive next steps with more details soon and additional communications over the next few months, but please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about this announcement.

If, as a business owner, you feel that a customized QStack installation may be a more appropriate solution for you - please take a look at qstack.com for more information and contact us to further discuss your requirements.

If you are experiencing any issues with your existing account, our Support Team is still available 24/7 to help, and will respond promptly should you need assistance.

We sincerely thank you for being a GreenQloud public cloud customer, and hope to continue providing you with innovative solutions, whether directly or via our partners.

Kindest regards,

Jón Þorgrímur Stefánsson, CEO

and the GreenQloud Team
