What do others say about Host Mist?

Alright here’s my review of HostMist’s service:

Although I was a total n00b with linux (the only command I actually new was su ) I bought and started setting up my VPS. At first I tried a lot of Linxu distributions, until finally I managed to setup my VPS with nginx (instead of the tons of memory eating apache), php+fastcgi, mysql and vsftpd and now I’m having successfully setuped and working wordpress blog on CentOs 5 x64. Now the only problem that I had to contact the support was that once after I tried to reinstall my Centos 5 x86 (while they still offered it) something went wrong and the installation process failed. Richard was kind enough to fix the issue by telling me that there have been problems with x86 versions and I shouldn’t have had them as an option in the control panel. So he installed a x64 version and everytjing was fine (I didn’t want to touch anything, cause I was totally freaked out that I may have killed my vps ). As a result I educated myself a lot about linux, vpses, memory problems, comamnds, hosting setup, etc. For 3.5$/month (I’m using XEN in Falkenstein) it’s more that a great offer! Thank you HostMist, thank you Richard, keep up the good work!

So far I’m very happy with HostMist. I signed up for Lightning, with 15% discount. There was an initial glitch in creating the VPS, but they answered my support ticket within 10 minutes. After that, everything has been great.

The VPS is very fast. The host it’s running on doesn’t seem to be overly crowded.

$ uptime

12:23:50 up 2 days, 22:28, 2 users, load average: 0.02, 0.05, 0.01

I don't know if the load averages take into account the load on the entire host, or just my VPS. I'm not an OpenVZ expert by any means.

Bandwidth is good, too. Overall, I'm a happy customer.

+1

I Actually host with hostmist, and i must say, they are awesome and the best around, I wouldnt trust any other host with my websites. Theyre customer service is the best. I had a site that was getting DDOS'd and hostmist spent hours with me getting it sorted and finding ways to prevent it etc.

Defiantly worth hosting with, I wouldnt give any other host a single penny.

Mind you Mun, Coaster lives in the Ytown metro, not in the city proper which has seen mass decline.  The non-city is fairly stable and alright suburban existence.  The city, like most cities, is sheer lunacy.  Decline you can see all over industrialized America and acutely in the Rust Belt.

The corridor from Pittsburgh to Cleveland is one big sprawl zone for the most part.  One population center after another, still.   MILLIONS, perhaps 7 million plus, perhaps more people in that zone from from Pittsburgh to Cleveland, and Youngstown is about midway between the two.

Pittsburgh had many decades of decline and only since about 2010 has stopped losing population.  It is heavy into medical, biotech and traditional tech.  Cleveland is doing some cleanup of its own and should be able to do as good as Pittsburgh big picture on redeveloping itself.   Youngstown is a small metro, so it can't leverage itself for money like the others (it does, but not getting stready dole out inflow).

There are efforts to formally define the corridor as a zone and likely for tax benefits and tarriffs. A joint massive effort. When such gets traction and people movers - like an interconnected rail system happens, that has been region could become very much the place to be for jobs and new businesses.

For now, they still are daydreaming.  But, things are looking up there finally.

PS: HostMist doesn't offer hosting in said geographic location.  Sadly, few do.

Plenty of thunderstorms available. Sorry, no hurricanes. Lake Erie just can't seem to make it happen with those Canadian air masses.

As for Y-Town, cost of living is quite low at least... and yes, I wouldn't want to live directly in the city. Stick with the suburbs.

I have explored hosting within the region and as of now, Expedient in Pittsburgh, is looking to be my choice. I don't have an ETA yet for that, though.
