Is it possible to use VOIP in a Windows VPS?

Is it possible to install a softphone app on a Windows VPS and use it like one would use VOIP on their own laptop? Lets say you have the headset connected to your laptop and the softphone app installed on a VPS. Would VOIP still work correctly under these circumstances? So basically I want to use VOIP by remoting into a VPS and using the softphone installed on there. Is that possible? I hope I'm making myself understood, I'm not sure if I've made myself clear or not.
