Owning a .US domain = Getting spam?

I literally ordered this domain last week, have never used it, never used it as a hostname, still points to Namecheap DNS. I decided not to use it as I wasn't aware I couldn't enable WhoIS protection on this particular domain, so instead I ordered a random 3 character .PW domain instead.

Anyone else get this crap? It's possible he was just looking for domains related to ones he has for sale and solicits them blindly, but that seems like too much work for trying to sell a domain.

I recently got a .us domain with Namecheap's 98 cent promo, and have gotten some spam about it. Gmail filters it effectively and it all gets deleted, no big deal. I get this with most new domains, don't even notice anymore.
