Hi Guys,

So I have got some good feedbacks and suggestions for PetaByet over the last 2 months, I have put them in the poll for you to decide the new features for PetaByet V2. Multiple selections are allowed :)

If you have any suggestions that is not in the poll, feel free to post them below!

Thanks in advance :)

Running a benchmark now and will let you know when it's done. The site looks fine, I think it's structured well.

What does this do that ServerBear doesn't, or how does it do it better? Certainly a neat project but curious what it is that will set this apart and make it be adopted by those who use ServerBear for benchmark sharing.

  • No private benchmarks (for transparency)
  • IP information
  • Sort benchmarks
  • Embedded benchmark reports
  • PetaByet score
  • ArchLinux support
  • Much faster time to complete a benchmark
  • Less "abusive"
  • And so on...

https://www.petabyet...7a8ccb163ed1fd/ Benchmark ran. Didn't take that long. Noticed that on the index if you hover over the ISP button for my benchmark, it says, "ISP Info Not Available." Is that because there are no other Linode benchmarks in the system?

Also, do you have any plans on how to reduce falsified or exaggerated benchmarks? I know first hand that providers will sometimes run a benchmark on a VPS plan they offer on a newly setup node, just to ensure that a benchmark is recorded at the peak of what would be possible for end-user performance. Any idea on how to limit how many benchmarks can be added for one provider by an individual by limiting how many times a single IP address can request a benchmark code? Unsure if this would at all be possible or just too much hassle.

Try to visit this url http://api.petabyet.com/geoip/{ip-address} (replace the IP address) and see if there is any ISP information in there. The database is updated once a month so new IP allocations may not be included in it.

Well, the community is there and if they find a falsified benchmark they can report it. I've received a few reports already. Actually, I'm not sure about how to actually prevent this; in February(beta stage) one IP is allowed to have a maximum of one benchmark (ie. new benchmarks with the same IP replace old ones). However, it is a pretty bad idea since the history (maybe a very bad benchmark) might be hidden from the public.

I'm currently working on a feature to show all benchmarks submitted by the same IP. For now, you can search for all benchmarks of a host or an ISP with the following URLs:

Code:
https://www.petabyet.com/search/{NameOfHost}/
https://www.petabyet.com/isp/{NameOfISP}/

Voting is over! I'll get the following three features done in the upcoming weeks:

  • New PetaByet Score algorithm
  • Search using the map
  • Traceroute
Thanks everyone for supporting this project! :)
