On Wednesday, a Canadian 17-year-old pleaded guilty to 23 charges relating to swatting calls and other false police reports, many of which had targeted his online opponents in the video game League of Legends.

According to a lengthy report by Canadian publication Tri-City News, the prosecution's case against the Coquitlam, British Columbia teenager asserted that the teen (whose name wasn't released due to his age) targeted "mostly young, female gamers" who declined or ignored his friend requests on LoL and Twitter.

Hopefully he gets tried as an adult and an example is made of him.

Swatting should result in a harsh and severe mandatory minimum sentence of no less than 5 years in prison as punishment. It puts lives at risk for the individual being swatted by trigger happy and nervous responders, the responding officers who kick down the door to a house not knowing how someone will respond inside, and regular people who may not receive a quick response to a real emergency because officers are responding to a fake call.

Take this case in Oklahoma for example. They believe this individual was swatted. He thought his home was being broke into and open fired on police and shot the police chief in the chest 3 times, and once in the arm. Luckily he is alive and luckily the officer survived. It's not a fucking game.

I'm pretty sure this was the case where the police failed to announce themselves. If someone broke down my door and didn't announce themselves or their agency, I'd do the same thing (albeit with a baseball bat).

Come on by unannounced and you are getting rifle, shotgun or maybe something larger...    Aiming to take your head clean off...  cause it's not bulletproof.

I'd feel bad, just say, that I'd have to describe the loss of life cause of some idiot.  Police should know better and announce... Oklahoma matter, they are lucky they aren't dead over that.

I don't know, I see young mislead folks running a few circuits and often overlapping.  It's financial scamming, DDoS and then SWAT'ing.  Maybe these kiddos throw some hacking in there with abused foolkits.

Comes down to much of the same wanting to be admired for the wrong reason, feared for the wrong reasons and to arbitrarily control other folks.  When you can't, oh you have the police state do that controlling for you.

Something at core about said folks being out of control of their own lives is the seed of the dysfunction.
