Time Tracking Module by Modulesgarden

Not to be taken seriously, ever!
Since this is not VPS related I ask the question in this section instead of "Questions and Answers"

I've been looking into starting my own business where I would sell my time and knowledge as a consultant and bill by the hour or project.

I found that ModulesGarden have a "time tracking" module for WHMCS, has anyone tried it and have something to say about it?

Billing by the hour gets complicated. Keep it simple for both you and the client.

Charge for the job/project.

I do bill by the hour today where I work so that would be no different if I go solo. :)

I'm interested in this solution since it would be possible to add hosting and other related services.

We do work for businesses by the hour but we keep it simple. We do the work. Say what we did on the invoice. Calcuate the cost based on time. Bill. Done. Do not really see a point for a module that does it.

Guess you send an invoice afer each project?

I'll try and explain my situation and perhaps the reason I'm looking for something like this becomes clear.

I do most of the work for customers who I sign long time contracts with. An example would be a customer that commits for a year and we (together) excpect that they would need my services one day a week during that year.

So every month during that year they would get two invoices, one to the pre pay the 32 hours for next month and one hours exceeding the 32 hours I worked for them during the month that past.

Meaning I wont send an invoice for each occation if the customer has a valid contract with me.

I could probably do everything with google apps if I wanted to but I would like something already done that has been tested to work.

I asked the same question over at LET and got a suggestion for another app that also looks promising.

If you do care to comment that this is "waste of time" please explain HOW you keep track of time to invoice. Not that you DO and its "easy". Thank you.

Generally, we do them as work is completed. In some cases we will do it in bulk or tally everything up by the week or month. We leave it up to the business on how they want hourly work invoices to come in. Some will prefer we do them by every days end.

Then our business models are different. :)

I would primarily work with long term clients as their IT-department, doing day to day work on or off site.

Most contracts would state a least amount of hours that will be pre paid each month.

The time tracking would help to calculate the real amount used by the end of the month.
