Training to become a more valuable asset for hosting related jobs?

I did CCNA during my honours degree and found it was kinda out of date and most of the stuff in it was useless.

Degree itself got me a job as a software developer at a company owned by GE Oil and Gas though so I guess that's ok.

Having the ability to program/script and automate tasks is an important asset to have.

If you can be 150% or 200% more productive than the technician next to you just be scripting and automating tasks, you'll be much more valuable to the company and more marketable wherever you want to go.
