WHT Down Again - DNS

Hey,

Seems WHT is down yet again, however this time seems to be a DNS issue and not an actual server issue., as if you use Google DNS the site will load fine, but most other DNS services the website is unreachable?

Has anyone noticed or do most people use Google DNS on here?

WHT simply doesn't understand the high volume commodity vps/cloud webhosting forum market today. They are stuck in the year 2000. Clearly they are not a spam forum user friendly organization...

WHT peaks around 3500 users online every day I think.

The selling sections are eh though due to the amount of providers that are out there selling. I figure

in a year or so the herd will get trimmed back to where it was a couple years ago.

Yeah WHT has been off and on for me throughout the week. 

Honestly the only thing I really do is keep an eye out for their Dedicated Server Offers.

He's selling his dual core desktop systems for about the same price that I picked up a non-forum advertised quad core desktop system for last week (22 euros, i5-3570, 8GB RAM,  240GB Corsair Force LS SSD, 20TB bandwidth,...Milan).  Bonus: I didn't have to wade through a sea of signature spammers' useless posts to find my desktop deal (not to mention the network in Milan is 100X better than KC).

I figure in a year or so the herd will get trimmed back to where it was a couple years ago.

I think it will continue growing but the percentage of sellers who live in the US/Western Europe will decrease (i.e. they'll face the reality that there's too much competition and give up).  Internet usage growth in western countries is slowing but it's still growing rapidly in other areas of the world (with the fastest growth in Africa) and it won't be long before those millions/billions of new Internet users get the itch to become a summer host and post an offer on WHT.  tl;dr the competition is only going to get worse

Dang!  Jealous!  I mean for me I'm more interested in the US location due to network but if Italy works for you then all the merrier!

I'm the price of Nigeria and boy do I have a deal for you!  Because of my relationship with my upstream provider I can sell E3-1270v2s for 10 dollars a month!  

How do I do it?  It's just the relationship I have with my upstream provider of course!  Stop asking questions!

I signed up in '02.  I was 18 then.  Once upon a time providers worked toward a common goal.

The day after I got a paid account I received an infraction because a new guy was getting picked on a little and all he needed was an answer so I kinda stepped in...

It's gotten to a point that you can't even offer to help someone with the littlest things or you'll get a strike on your account. Never found that to be accommodating.

And there are only a handful of people over there with an in-depth knowledge of OpenVZ ... and they're all over here except for a couple. Hell, yesterday someone politely referred to one of my practices as "idiotic" because I keep the nodes underloaded.... I think it was that Gabriel fellow from ioflood. Don't know him from Adam, he's probably a perfectly nice guy, but I don't recall referring to his constant mentions of Burstable resources "idiotic". 

Yeah, I keep a hunk of resources free. It's something I do for the sake of the clients and my reputation. I can afford to do it, and no client has ever complained because they had all of their allocated resources when they needed to use them.  Anyhow ... I think really I should hang around here a bit more. At least you guys understand me...

I just don't think there's going to be the V6 resources around for more summer hosts. Hell, AFRINIC is going to burn out SUPER fast when they're allocating /16's and crap like that to hosts like HOST1PLUS or whatever they were called.

It's possible all the summerhosts will return to shared hosting and things like that.

Why I love VPSB so much. We have in-depth talks from real working professionals here working toward a common goal without having to swim in a pool of phirana getting bit. I've known several Corp. members who actually canceled their WHT subscriptions just because posting there is such a risk of being ridiculed for no reason.
