    Getting my First 100 Cllients,

GVH wasn't a failure until multiple things went wrong (read human staffing, lack of staff, high ticket volume, constant drama in public, hacks, arrests of workers, etc.).  It was super low margins on profit side, which makes it hard to attract any real workers.  Leaves you with Lowend hobby...

    How do you do staff?

Successful folks I know are all about their business.  They eat it, sleep it and drink it.  Everything else takes a backseat really out of necessity at least for a few years up front.  Some take a decade off of life to focus and perfect things. This isn't too different than a real academic...

Why isn't FUSE supported natively with OVZ providers???

I can appreciate this.  Unsure what computing overhead it is unused, but certainly counts for something.  I have the minimalist bug myself, just FUSE is used for so many things and it pains me with most to go round and round for days.  Heck, I've had providers who couldn't manage to get FUSE...

    How do you do staff?

Amen to this! I think the problem we see quite a bit in hosting is young guys, even teens view this as some walk in the park and lazy way to make money (instead of getting outside and working like the rest of the population mainly does). Technology is always changing, brutally fast and...

Looking for similar processors to X5650

X5660, X5670, X5680, X5690 There are others out there in the Xeon lineup. Intel somewhere has a CPU spec site with families broken out on cores and threads... Go searching for that...  I don't have it here at fingertips or I'd post it.

    How do you do staff?

Lowering level of support :) Bahahah is that a cost saving option in the new glitertastic BS age? Shame, it is indeed real.  It really shows in many businesses and part of why customers have little brand loyalty... I've never liked this cost savings approach or where one sends the work to 3rd...

Why isn't FUSE supported natively with OVZ providers???

So I use FUSE dependent tools out on hosted servers.  Been using such for years. Regular routine as customer to asked for with OpenVZ instances that FUSE be enabled by the provider. Why today isn't FUSE just auto enabled by providers?

ToR allegedly compromised by mass of rogue nodes and Carnegie Mellon Researchers + FBI

http://fusion.net/story/238742/tor-carnegie-mellon-attack/ This isn't breaking news per se.  Happened back in 2014.   Details are what is breaking per se. Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh "researchers" funded by the FBI allegedly were able to attack ToR network and collect real IPs...

    How do you do staff?

Smartest thing I've seen said in a long time, especially by someone in your capacity.  Props to you on that. For the business owner, it should be a long term investment.  To get to the long term = other people (workers) who get paid along the way.   Long term the business owner should reap...

Chances of starting a successful WISP

Talking about the physical fiber installation here, right?   Yeah it's expensive.  Especially when I have to trench and bury your conduit :)  Everything is by the foot.  Even if their is connectivity already, you need to run your own, usually.  I am sure there are tower brokers with bandwidth...

Holiday 2015 "Special" Purchase Regret Confession Thread

I use the ARM stuff still for servers.  All CLI. Due to general distro issues with one board I have here I have an Ubuntu desktop running.  It works actually pretty good... Good enough that I've considered using it a second terminal for random things like browsing.  That's on a 2GB of RAM...

    How do you do staff?

Outsourcing sites leave a lot to be desired.  Even the more pricey ones underwhelm.   I've done it with visual artists in outsourcing roles.  Everything else, meh, unimpressed generally and don't often ship other stuff out. Think about it, asking people to do usually specialized tasks...

Holiday 2015 "Special" Purchase Regret Confession Thread

I said no to CHIP since it's entirely unclear when I'd ever see such delivered. Feeling I missed out, I went and unplugged a half dozen ARM devices idling and having a build party soon :)

If you can deal with the cost and complexity of running SSL, by all means, do it for everything.

Chances of starting a successful WISP

Lots of folks use Ubiquiti and say good things about.  Be sure to eyeball Mikrotik also. Price for both on the client radios is awesome. If you can get government buy-in / right of wave / mount access then it makes something like this a lot more doable. Problem and where you should...

Chances of starting a successful WISP

Wireless ISPs are needed.  Hoping they take off again. It takes more than just an internet connection.  This is enterprise level thing.  Infrastructure laid out right.  Base install sites ideally on cheap somehow - otherwise you are going to bleed from what tower access costs. Depends on...

Inkjet cleaning solvent question... anyone cleaned their inkjet?

Been printing a lot lately and my Epson Workforce unit is becoming more and more a PITA. This week magenta stopped working. Looked around and I see repair processes people have performed to unclog nozzles on these and other inkjets. Anyone here done this before?  Looking for a...

    How do you do staff?

Fiverr?  I kid, sort of. Problem too with such arrangements is that a shop has to be really organized to outsource tasks.   Owner has to burn a lot of cycles scheduling the work, finding the worker(s), writing up what needs done, interacting with folks, following up, etc.
