That's the self-hosted Firefox Sync (aka Weave) I was discussing in another thread.  Many browsers have this capability.. Firefox/Iceweasel is the only one I've found so far that lets you easily do it yourself without having to rely on their servers.

Iceweasel is an 'alternative' in that Debian refuses to package out anything other than FOSS by default.  Given that Firefox is also Open Source (but not FOSS), I have no problems with using it.  I have full control over the browser, I can check and compile source myself if I'm worried about...

Correct, though I worked on the assumption that anyone with enough knowledge to force improper firmware without breaking the phone would also know to simply switch off the radio from the OS :P

One thing that always makes me laugh is certain hosts used to shittalk so much about how strict our policies are... and now it seems that just about everyone is using policies I implemented years ago :P (Not a dig on you neno; just an amusing observation in general :3)

Pretty much. I've got everything running smoothly now.. perhaps this weekend I'll put up my deployment layout, and maybe do a couple guides for folks wanting to do the self-host thing as well (contacts/calendar/email/sync/'drive'/etc).

Out of curiosity, I gave ISPConfig a try. A quick --purge later, I decided to just stick with a postfix/sasl/dovecot manual setup. Thanks for the suggestions though folks; I did see a few recommendations that look rather interesting for some unrelated project ideas.

I've seen more of that in my time in the US than anywhere else in the world, actually.
