Widespread misunderstanding of cloud from the people who claim that there is a widespread misunderst

It's not about spending money and coming off as classist.  I am not a provider nor do I suscribe to classism and some might infer I just have no class. The only high-end there is in this conversation truly is high demand customers.  Those that expect more 9's on uptime, expect a robust...

Yubikeys - Using them currently for?

Decided to take the leap finally and a Yubikey for two factor authentication.  Generic usage with Lastpass. I think we have a bunch of people here using Yubikeys.   What are the interesting applications I should check out that support Yubikeys (online is fine, local LAN / same PC is even better)?

Any other Hostress customers migrated from Chicago to Buffalo with no notice?

Won't find me hosting there....  I am far too selective (and tired) to deal with sh!t experiences like this.

For all the frugal folks needing sandbox instances for dev / testing, Vultr has a coupon code for $50 credit. The $50 free credit is good for 60 days.  You will have to provide payment pre-authorization in amount of $2.50 (which supposedly gets refunded). The promotion is over here: ...

Any other Hostress customers migrated from Chicago to Buffalo with no notice?

1TB of RAM... yeah assumed he just munged it....   GVH had many insanity plans... Clearly no 1TB of RAM :) The issue is support only can do what support is tasked with doing.  Billing and major issues always falls on owner / management to resolve. It's ownership like this that gives ahhh...

Widespread misunderstanding of cloud from the people who claim that there is a widespread misunderst

Anyone selling 'cloud' and actually intending on building something that resembles such is going to find themselves with sticker shock. It isn't an el cheapo random E3 on a mutant network sitting as an island with an OVZ + Solus stack.  Need big cores, big RAM, fast back plane innerconnects. ...

Sounds like a more US central location than San Diego :) What's the date and have a link?  HostingCon website isn't reflecting it up front.

Getting new clients ~ How did you do it?

The trick is to show up daily, do the work and be generally visibile.   Be polite, responsive, etc.  Look for niches and opportunities to work / help others to get traction going.

Any other Hostress customers migrated from Chicago to Buffalo with no notice?

Stupid plan there for sure that was sold to @FredQc.  Unless @FredQc is being billed $50+ a month, and who gives 12 cores to a customer?!?!?!  I was bothered multiple times in past two weeks by former GVH customers left offline.  One was a shared hosting customer three weeks offline and being...

    Cloud VPS is really cloud?

Redundancy and reliability go together.  You can use a lot of unreliable cheap garbage then waste time and energy trying to make such redundant.  Bad utilization of time, money and energy.  Yes people are doing such in various ways.   People also live on 59 cent sandwiches and pay $100 a month...

Widespread misunderstanding of cloud from the people who claim that there is a widespread misunderst

I'll start by saying words having meanings.  Even if idiots and snake oil salesmen use such words over and over with great conviction.  The common definition by use of cloud is buzzword bingo stabbing in the dark to ride the fad wave with the rest of the inept.  It means literally nothing in...

Widespread misunderstanding of cloud from the people who claim that there is a widespread misunderst

I think definitions aside (but appreciated) cloud is nearly always on and able to be ported to and self moved and redeployed ideally automagically in same DC but emphasis on other DCs.  DC1 goes pop, no matter, your container is alive in DC2.  Elastic is a key word and it's not just resource...

What podcasts does everyone here listen to?

Podget for the actual feeds.  Can run it on Raspberry Pi or anything.  In Debian repos. Youtube-dl is good and supports lists from youtube if you have some that are active and tailing with new stuff.  Just have to write a cronjob to do that. "I've never fully 'gotten into' or understood...

What are you listening to right now?

Kutiman for all my Israeli friends.  This band / collective / concept is just rocking.   This is a more dance / electro piece.  Their stuff is all over the board world music.

What podcasts does everyone here listen to?

Podcasts I mostly avoid cause everyone creating them wants to push Itunes as disto method.  Like a RSS feed is so complicated....  Many others don't even have download ability with inline playing being their method. I get a bunch of stuff from http://www.radio4all.net. Juke in the Back you...

    CrocWeb using OVH?

Get a test IP. Cologix is certainly at that address. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=cologix+1250+rene+levesque Appears Crocweb has used Netelligent at that location...   See: https://www.robtex.com/as/as10929.html Current BGP on their ASN shows direct upstreams though...
