Proposed updates to rules -- A discussion

I am so tired of the same old post and run copied the offer from 3 months ago with same errors approach by providers.  Calling their stuff robotic is an understatement.  Hell there are providers I like who are on that same old stuff and I am like make it stop.... If your sales are about the...

Proposed updates to rules -- A discussion

I think this is a good approach also. Honestly, Verified status or whatever it is called for subset of providers around here, really should me something.   More than you spent $100 on an LLC filing and did the next generation dance steps to get into the site.

Zeneva  ... Yes indeed, throw that on my list too :)

Study finds that more than 80% of Tor Hidden Service visits are political dissidents

In other news, over half of all plain old internet traffic is from bots and spiders.  The remaining 50% is compromised of 40% zombies and 10% real folks. Which reminds me of the other day looking at a certain company and their site with random web traffic numbers and most popular sites by...

2014 year in review. What were your favorite VPS industry moments of 2014?

Top of my tired brain: 1. UGVPS revelations and confirmations. Fabozzi lied more about time he owned the brand, had other staff pretending to be Crystal and the financial mess it all created.  That was initially September 2013 story here, but revelations flowed in 2014. 2. Burst.net's mass...

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

Not so long ago we had a lad who used the name CurtisG here. He was active in other communities also.  Smart young man, a little off (most of us are), well intentioned, but would go off course in ugly ways. He had tendencies to DOX folks (push out personal info, phone #'s, address info, etc.)...

    Recommendation for large desktop drive?

Amen to the motion-only recording.   Rather necessary when doing high res rates and bunch of cameras and for the space constraints otherwise. This year I am upgrading to a new non-computer based dedicated recording device / brain for my cameras.   Tired of allowing Windows in space for powering...

    Recommendation for large desktop drive?

Say what? Sounds like some DVR contraption use to me. There are a bunch of NAS feature targeted 7200RPM 64MB cache drives out there.  All of them will work fine for you. I buy whitelabel cheaper models often for that use and no issues yet.  Depends on what I can find the official brand...

For those of you using GMail, how often do you backup your mailbox?

... and stupid newb question ... Does Gmvault support ongoing backups?   Like I run it today against the motherload, then here onward run it to get the new stuff appended to backup collection?  Hoping it supports this and can script / run it all from commandline interface....  will do backup...

For those of you using GMail, how often do you backup your mailbox?

I am going to give Gmvault a try.   The project could be more clear about documentation and flow, but I guess I'll figure it out. Would be nice to be able to port data out of Gmail regularly and pipe it into some other mail system for archiving / redundancy.

Task tracking for the VERY busy folks out there - recommendations?

As the new year steps closer, it's a goal of mine to implement some software to help me track overdue tasks, new tasks, just tasks in general. I have a mass of companies I interact with and have tasks related to, so looking for a software that is flexible in that way. I do like web based apps...

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

Listen, Lance is a real guy and all, but he's a total ghost.  Find anyone who has spoke to the guy.  No one has except Jonny.  Plus Lance if he's involved does whatever in the background as workers and those dicking around over there haven't interacted with the guy.  If Jonny does something...

Looking for VPS providers in North Carolina

Dacentec runs a good operation (remember they are now owned by a largeish multiple DC owned company). The RTO's aren't bad on price.  Nice provisioning last time I did a box setup there. I *think* Dacentec was offering VPS accounts too... Not seeing them on public sales website though...

    Vultr Buglandia.

It's all fun at Vultr until they ask you for your "PAPERS".  Unsure if they do random flagging or what.   But I know folks paper searched for no rationale reason.  Me, personally, any company that paper requests, I don't deal with.   I don't care if it is my utility company and they have a...

Using Mysql and a Ram Disk

My brain is probably older and more broken than your's :) This topic has come up quite a bit in the years that MySQL has existed.  Then again, when I started computing, relational open source databases did not exist.  Computer had puny RAM and floppy drives were exotic non-consumer products...
