Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

Holy fnck.   That's horrendous. As always, when your labor/employees/helpers etc. accept to work close to nothing or literally nothing, one should see the writing on the wall.  They are either there to undermine you, take you "trade secrets" or up to something else usually sinister.   A few of...

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

That @Amitz quote about the lad being a drunk - it's Off Topic hid... what am I missing there? Jonny is an atheist I do believe.  Not religious whatsoever. 21 is the drinking age these days in all 50 States.  Think the feds tied such mandate to highway funding.  Don't want 21 but younger age...

Seagate Hybrid drives with SSD enhancement - using them? SSHD

Just using or intending to use one for a growing database archive I have.  SSDs are nice, but until the 1-2TB SSDs get closer to spinning rust, I just use SSDs as boot / system drives and some dev on such.   Foregoing RAID for replication and backup dumps.   Since internal and no live  public...

How do I tunnel an IP from one box to another?

Maybe time to get a Linux box in house and connect from Windows to such... since you can GRE via the Linux box. SSH does "tunnel-like".  There is overhead and all that jazz...  I recommend it since certainly are Windows SSH clients that I bet support such. I don't do Windows.

Merry Christmas, Your server is offline!

The holidays this year are brutal on how they fall and office folks taking mass time off work. Christmas was Wednesday half day for most, at best.  Thursday off and skeleton crew for Friday. Now for New Years we have  slacking on Wednesday again, off on Thursday.  More skeleton crews on...

    2015 New Years Resolutions?

Yeah Square Foot gardening is something I do too.  My beds are due for replacement this next year. I don't do chickens, but ducks instead.  Purely for pest control and driveby self composting. :)

    Lizard Squad launches Tor 0day

Well, new relays get no traffic really for days.  Give them a week and they'll be getting a chunk of traffic. Long have said this was an issue and why I don't support Tor anymore.  Just said it in past 48 hours on here. This is far from the first time that lots of end nodes under an intent...

    2015 New Years Resolutions?

We have another addicted gardener ;)  Welcome, good to see you again :) I am with you on #2.  I am still looking for the right farmstead or larger farm to call home. More nerdfolk should try the gardening thing.  Get the exercise in, get some son, sort of have to care for some other living...

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

I don't know if it's illegal....  It's definitely not up to snuff for handling things and any sort of real world compliance though.  Compliance, oh?   No one in kiddie land is compliant with anything, other than 'tardation.    What it is, is well, stupid - the unencrypted over the public net...

    The cesspit / chat thread.

BlueVM moved in with Fab and Buylow.  They deny. BlueVM gives similar lacking service and customer support as CVPS.  They deny. Lately, BlueVM dropped their EUR location or something went loco and server offline for customers - for days to weeks at this point. At last check, BlueVM pulled all...

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

Like I keep saying, LAN is where things are and should be more and more.  Glad to see a company saying this and doing this. With such attachments and ID docs, no real reason to preserve beyond ehh 90 days... just bad juju to have such perma stored (IDs, passports, card scans, utility bill...

Goodhosting seems to be a good shop.  Some bumps in road but the owner really does seem like an alright fellow and trying to do right for biz and customers.

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

Problem is if something really breaks and when it breaks.  Need fresh folks who can conquer the issue and with fresh eyes.  It's doable with small staff, but has to be like you guys with workers who know their stuff and admin who is very competent and with lots of automation and where head admin...

Greenvaluehost hacked, customer details exposed to public including customer photo IDs

Well, the customer portal inevitably was under attack on daily basis. I assume here they were shoving multiple HTTP instances/machines with such on the front side.  The back side though and database = single instances.  Such *could* work and be necessary, however if you can't deal with...

So configuration.php is in there and populated with data. db_username = root ... That isn't normal /secure is it? cc_encryption_hash is in there too.... Supposedly the MySQL box was IP restricted, so *should* be secure.

Australian telecom giant Telestra just agreed to buy sea fiber company Pacnet for $697 million USD. Pacnet brings 100 POPs and Asian datacenter presence. Interesting note, Pacnet is only foreign company licensed by Chinese government to provider network services in China. This deal is face...
