GreenValueHost / GVH and HostNun banned for operating shill ring

I have to say, this is interesting theater observation from the sidelines. GVH and their whole exclusive relationship with ColoCrossing at this point should be under ahh review. On one hand I feel that if Jonny and his cohorts aren't lying [this time finally] then it's sad for them.  But it's...

Ad Stalking - Opinions? Good business or bad shady form?

    DigitalOcean is using that piece of sh!t AdRoll. As you can see in DO's homepage source code: .... adroll_adv_id = "S4BPDI4QWNB57PEKEZSLIP"; adroll_pix_id = "4IDGVTPEAFC4TM2QKYNQ53"; (function () { var oldonload = window.onload; window.onload = function(){ __adroll_loaded=true...

GreenValueHost / GVH and HostNun banned for operating shill ring

Jaroslav Urban. Who later was proven to be: Tyler Plack.   Who was then proven to be using the alias Alan Romano and pretending running AcclaimedHost which was just a GVH reseller / investment / shill.  Yeah that was a GVH banning / lie / IP gimmick that went on and on prior over there at LET...

GreenValueHost / GVH and HostNun banned for operating shill ring

I am pretty sure HudsonValleyHost wants NOTHING to do with any such deal and babysitting the GVH empire. It is no secret that Ernie avoids public brew-hahas and the limelight.   Touching GVH intimately like that would be way more BS than any real business person would want to assume.

GreenValueHost / GVH and HostNun banned for operating shill ring

Ouch. I give @mpkossen some credit for strapping on his boots this fine Monday. This situation was inevitable and overdue.   Needless to say it is NOT original in CC-land nor in their sub companies where revolving doors of "consultants" spin freely and all sorts of overlap of people from one...

Can't say I feel sorry at all. Hopefully the company doesn't come entering the market with the crap they were bringing.

Ad Stalking - Opinions? Good business or bad shady form?

Ad Stalking, the process whereby as a website visitor you get cookie stuffed - cookie for site you are visiting put in your browser for long time.  Then later you end up at some other site where they too are tied into same ad network or other javascript bugging which then fires off an ad for...

    Self-hosted Distributed Storage

That ISO is still chugging, slowly along on the replication. Gets mega confusing if you have multiple web interfaces open for the end points in your SyncThing setup.  Cause on the master progress percentages aren't updated until the file is finished and complete on the other side.   In this...

The Pirate Bay Runs on 21 “Raid-Proof” VPS

RAID proof in their world means most likely they have logging off or backhauling such to other roving locations. The VPS model would be light resource boxes... Not a ton of disk... Not a ton of computation power. Me, I for some reason think they still have centralized operation in unnamed DC...

The partial transfer file in SyncThing is given a period prefixed name: .syncthing.debian-7.6.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso = 70M wget on the local server is up to about 750M currently.... Yes, my upload speeds are much slower than download speeds. Will continue to watch and see how this does.

Paypal extends buyer dispute time limit to up to 180 days after purchase (in US)

45 days once or twice was too short with me dealing with idiots up to no good.... People way slow to ship products...   Normally, 45 days should suffice, but I can envision other issues like warranties.... Where a product is "covered" by seller but said product fails to work / breaks.  45 days...

Paypal extends buyer dispute time limit to up to 180 days after purchase (in US)

Considering how many purchases are services / digital goods, that's a whole lot of purchasing without protection. Unsure why PayPal continues to fail to protect digital goods / service buyers. The 180 day change I do believe was to comply with regulations in the EU.

The Pirate Bay Runs on 21 “Raid-Proof” VPS

The Pirate Bay runs illegal content.  Like all semi-competent criminals they use burners, drops, etc.   This is the hosting version thereof. Pirate Bay has been rather craptastic for a number of years.  Just rather barren.  Surprised it isn't ran on a fleet of Raspberry Pi's at this point.

Xen Security Vulnerability and Amazon is Special

Oh, well, if said vulnerability is being used as classism, perhaps the actual deficiency should be leaked to the world and force a more rapid response and more uniform treatment. :)
