Some good responses by providers and actually useful/real reasons to consider slabbing. Versus the unsavory reasons other folks run such elsewhere.
Definitely a few more companies from the responses that I'd be interested in having services with, slabbing or no slabbing.
"Anyway, you can usually poke around and find CC resellers/etc that will pile on IP's to try to make a sale."
This I've noticed. That and liberal issuance of multiple IPs on low cost VPS.
Well you want to use your Pi to dole out or centralize stuff like DNS. That was the only clear service thus far.
You can do that by putting the Pi and your other computers on the same subnet and attach them to the same switch.
On the Pi, install dnsmasq. Once you have that up and going I...
I find Twitter to be a giant blah, advertising text stream mainly.
Not terrible as an RSS like feed for certain websites. Other than that, a giant hype machine about not much. Very spotty on who and what is on there.
I always thought of Oktay as a straight shooter and honest. No one pulls a thread like that unless Uncle Jon forced the matter on them in the background. That's disappointing. :(
My understanding is much above 5k processes OpenVZ performance goes south quickly. So, commonly slabbed to work around this with multiple process pools.
Stories about some of these slab workarounds involve rather puny servers (i.e. 32GB of RAM) with upwards of 4 7-8GB slabs.
It certainly...
Well the locations vary. Where it costs real cashola, stick them at 1-2 racks per location.
CC is strange though, massive 200k+ IP growth in a year and well, have you seen any new massive buildouts? Looks like ZERO growth on servers deployed. Yeah they lit up a rack in NJ at Choopa. Oh did...
So, my buddies at ColoCrossing are getting noticed in academic circles for IPV4 hoarding and abuse.
Assistant Professor, Vibhanshu Abhishek from Carnegie Mellon University in a paper titled "Context and Realities of the IPV4 Market: What Technology Leaders Need to Know" mentions ColoCrossing in...
It's Sunday and the holiday season. Unless you roll around in CC's bed we won't be outing anyone ;)
Certainly some folks want to say, yeah we do it and defend the practice. Right?
United Server Slabbers Union 100.
My latest boo-ya-kah is looking around to see who is nesting virtualization within virtualization - aka SLABBING.
We have more honest providers around here. Who confesses to slabbing?
What are the many legitimate uses of such and what are the unsavory reasons for slabbing (other than...
Geez, I wonder how that happened? Who did that? Godaddy must be messing up again.
Now to direct all inbounds from UGVPS.COM to this thread :)
