Best password manager? What are you using?

Slick and small :)  I like it.  Now where to store the darn things... Store mine increasingly more often locally in KeepNote.

Which OS do you use and why?

Well. most distros just can't figure out how to slim down.  Crunchbang requires a DVD to burn the ISO.     So that kind of kills it for me.  Some of the notebooks I have laying around either have broken disc reader or just CD.  (Yeah, I really need to get a PXE boot setup running on my...

Which OS do you use and why?

Debian everywhere - VPS, desktop, local servers... Dumped Mint, Crunchbang, etc.  too many hassles with my hardware (notebooks).

Who l am liking currently: 1. RamNode (using in both locations) 2. Prometeus 3. BuyVM (using Vegas) I've been letting accounts sit and do what they are configured to do. Honorable mention to Fliphost and 24khost.  I have storage services from them and neither are offering those these days...

Who can offer me the cheapeat vps on the planet?

At least the OP didn't come begging for a FREE VPS ;)

    Why high RAM vps?

Just a general question, but has IPB or similar employed query caching or addons for such.    I cache queries like a lunatic.   No way to pull performance and not have to scale into more boxes under load aside from caching.

    Why high RAM vps?

I wish I could shoe horn everything into small RAM. Not a VPS, but my big projects suffer from: Java, MySQL and memcached.   I can step down the values some.   Currently parked at 8GB+ steady-ish RAM consumption.  Reducing MySQL cache values would drop it maybe 2GB+.   memcached, can shave that...

    What would you recommend?

Yeah drop the panel and save the cash :) Annual plans are your friend.  BuyVM, RAMNode,Hostigation, etc.  Yeah other folks do them too. An increasing number of my accounts are small, typically 128MB tops and are annuals.   The prices are right and simplifies billing.  Heck what you will save...

    BuyVM offloaded SQL

Yeah, MannDude uses it for vpsBoard still. Has been alright, but some performance issues with it.   Francisco knows and is babysitting it and I think has plans to beef the server up more. I frown about offloading MySQL, especially to a shared server with who knows who doing who knows what...

    Is it viable to switch?

Lots of folks are running far more in far less.  Official Cpanel and WHM requirements are: Hardware RequirementsComponent Minimum Requirement Processor 266 MHz processor Memory 512 MB RAM (1 GB recommended when hosting many accounts) Disk Space 10GB hard disk

    Semoweb Sold / Acquired?!?!

Based on what Root Level is doing and pace they are doing it at, I am pretty certain they already have other low end companies they've bought and the ink on the contract is drying. Expect another flurry of 2-3 companies under their umbrella in next 45 days.

Any interest in these 64MB plans?

Stop it :)  Buffalo, is that mandatory that all adherents of the low end must offer services out of there?  Ahh, just being a crank.  $7/year is hard to complain about :)

What are you doing for the 4th of July?

The 4th of July long lost its meaning in the United States.  It is an excuse for most to grill dead animals, consume quantities of bad beer, bicker with the inlaws and complain about the mosquitoes in most places.  The grand finally is blowing up some stuff and shooting fireworks off that are...

    Is it viable to switch?

1GB is overkill :)  But, working towards ditching the panel cost would save a bundle and be long term great idea. $40/mo is in dedicated and colocated pricing for me.

Any interest in these 64MB plans?

GIgabit :)  I'd like to see more monthly bandwidth. $7/year?  Sounds good to me.  Count me in.

What are you listening to right now?

Wopop' a show from KEXP in Seattle.   They play "world music".

    Is it viable to switch?

You should have no problem "downsizing". RAM you don't need for   a forum and some Wordpress sites.  512MB of RAM should be more than adequate.   Upside is that RAM ideally is going to be available and not served out of swap, SSD, etc. Cachefly isn't a good indicator of much since peering is...

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

Well, no offense to QPS, but the L5420's are out there for a song these days.  $150-300 depending.  Might need to put the harddrive on top of that and still in the $200-400 range, maximum.   ROI on a $50 plan could be 6 months on the low side.  That's why the 5420's and similar series are so...

Are the days gone that it's hard to get a buyvm box?

http://doesbuyvmhavestock.com/ Shows everyone out of stock....  Intentional stock pull back?  Know I saw a bunch of stuff a few days ago. Me, I jumped on a 256MB plan in Vegas for the DDoS protection a few months ago.  Mothballed/idle because they have been even recently a pain to get hold of.
