Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

Cause... drumroll... many providers are mass overselling.  Especially resources that aren't typically used.  It use to be CPU 'abuse' the providers whined about.  They started limiting what you can run and defined CPU abuse and set limits on what you could access CPU wise.  Problem solved...

ChicagoVPS / CVPS Hacked. New SolusVM exploit? [PT 2/2]

All the the low end industry needs is a hungry lawyer ready to start filing suits.   I won't shed a tear when/if it happens, even if it is against another unsavory provider.

    vpsBoard advertisements.

Yeah too high since they are taking 25% of the price of the ad. Rates for the ads should be fair and based on viewers accepting/viewing the ads during prior month(s).  Certainly less than what BSA and the other sites are selling at.

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

Well it happens.  Overselling is certainly getting more mature and better hiding it from novice end users.  Especially with the emergence of cheap SSD technology. So rather than playing roulette, while idling the VPS, watching and waiting before putting it in production (I do this for 3+...

    Need SSD Dedi

Because OP needs fast CPU, good throughput and that's about it.  He's not storing masses of data or anything. But, in all fairness, I raise this point all the time about dual quad offers with a tiny single 500GB drive :)  I am a data horder and forget that many folks aren't ;)

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

As a consumer, why not?  First and foremost, you are paying for resources you don't use too much already.  The low end banks on totally idle accounts with empty installs.  No difference to me loading up some place holder files or wget'ing to disk 500 speed test files or putting some of "real"...

    Need SSD Dedi

This could be done with a L5420 or similar dual quad core.  Isn't 3GHZ or above though, but note I said DUAL QUAD.  Not a single QUAD. Bundle with that a 60GB SSD. Certainly aren't getting a Samsung or Intel SSD at budget. Really not an expensive machine if you come down on the CPU speed.

    Semoweb Sold / Acquired?!?!

Nope. I don't understand why those being acquired are in stealth mode and snapped on the lips.   Being bought was always a cause for celebration and I always believed in informing your customers of the deal and what it means to them....

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

I have dozens of providers.   Most of them do a good job. The bad ones, leaving just means more free dollars for them.  Nah, I'll linger. I've been involved in business for over 25 years.  Not much escapes me. Calling some low end providers, like the unlimited cellular illusionists, SATAN is...

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

It's useful, for filling up the trashed disk with files and putting a dent in more overselling. Every plan I have languishing from a provider I haven't been happy with are getting space reserved files stored this weekend.  It is the least I can do to get my value or prevent someone else from...

How do you take your coffee?

in a proper glass or ceramic cup please.  Black if I am drinking it. Me, I'm more partial to tea though.

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

No way to justify overselling to the degree some providers do either. For the few of us that are tired of the ghetto a$$ providers and are in a long term relationship with Satan, the provider, it's time to get a refund :)   Oh that's right, no refunds or $25 billing fee to get a refund.  ...

    Semoweb Sold / Acquired?!?!

I don't know what Root Level Technology's plans are.  They list the acquisitions on their website and seem to operate the companies as individual units or "products" as they've labeled them.  Obviously, there is integration to some extent on the backend, like one tech / administrative team.

Income is income, even if donations are source of it.  The tax nazis don't care if the income is from selling dope, humans or from robbing school children. Donations are only handled differently where IRS has issued non profit 501©(x) status.  That's multiple years of begging, pleading and...

Welll the way the local utility talks, 70% of that utility's power which covers Vegas and areas up north around Battle Mountain generates 70% of their power from their own natural gas gen plants.  30% gap comes from Hoover Dam. The California grid operator thing I looked at seemed to have...

Well Fran was already in line with cash and gear ready to be ordered for second leg of power - to prevent single feed failure.  Just heard recently (prior to this) that he was leaving Rob T. alone for a bit about the electricity stuff.  This shuffled the deck priority for sure. Rob is an honest...

Pie hit the situation head on. There is an incident report that Fiberhub will produce at some point probably tomorrow indicating the failure, scope and what corrective actions they intend on taking.  When it shows up in public, one of us will get it over here. Fiberhub has prior electric...

Probably not.  You expect an accountant to be tight with their own money, but graciously taking of your funds.

Redundancy should include a totally separate US East Coast instance with DDoS protection. Will help for delays those in Europe might still be experiencing and *if* Vegas goes down again, the site can keep rolling on. Thanks to the BuyVM crew, again.  Had to be hectic with nodes down and damage.
