    When an Uber Driver Kills

Long been blah about Uber the taxi alternative that is all the rage. Conceptually good but more of industry busting and wage murdering than anything. Many questioned their policies on hiring drivers or allowing such into their network for fares. Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan, some sicko...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Unisolar.   A defunct US manufacturer that has been parted to China I do believe.  They were up in Michigan. Plenty of 'old stock' of their panels.  Notably flexible panels like these...

Datashack (Kansas City) has stopped selling colocation

This :) Yeah HE can die in a fire. Cogent isn't too bad, depends on your upstream and location though.   Kansas City via WSI / Datashack wasn't too bad.  For colo though, meh.  Never was impressed.  They cut corners and sales misrepresented in the past.  Had buyers in DC with high thermal...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Probably good and proper import tariffs working on your side of the pond.   One of the rare times as a consumer the broken system may have had a financial benefit as a buyer here. Usually such is buying inferior goods and questionable workmanship and certainly no customer support. China was...

    The cesspit / chat thread.

IPB isn't the worst for sure. Coding ones own solution is novel.  Good luck with that pipe smoking crackhead approach to the world.   I wonder if the techtards out there who adhere to the DIY destruction approach get mad at their automobile and go cobble a new one of their creation in...

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Those prices are up... at least from this side of the pond. 87EUR for 80W works out to $1.21 USD...  So comparatively, yes an increase.   Last year I was seeing commonly $1~ shipped per watt.  Sad I didn't pick up more panels for project :(

Anyone running solar powered stuff at home?

Solar ROI is still broken / not there usually.  Panels are rated / warrantied at 20 years often and lifespan able to be longer than that.  Problem is batteries are about 5 years on average, meaning factor in 4-5 battery purchases.   Controllers go also.  Low input and draw stuff like this...

The 2016 (USA) Presidential Election Thread

I like some of what Sanders has to say.  But calling him an outsider is a joke. He's been an elected official for at least 25 years and I think more in local offices prior to that. As a Senator I heard, but didn't fact check, that he's proposed like 353 different bills.  Of them 3 have been...

Datashack (Kansas City) has stopped selling colocation

Popular cheap hosting provider Datashack appears to have discontinued colocation services. The former navigation items for colocation have been stripped from their site.  The old URL now redirects https://www.datashack.net/colocation/ to dedicated servers. Datashack was popular for cheap...

DOJ vs. Apple over Terrorist Phone

and it gets more interesting... The iPhone was issued to the deceased by the County, under his employment. This is an alleged FBI PR piece clarifying more about the phone and what happened: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/2716811-Statement-from-the-FBI-Feb-20-2016.html

Host your own DNS or use a DNS specialist company?

Little better tutorial with this one.. using plain old MySQL... Some debugging towards the end of it: http://www.unixmen.com/how-to-install-powerdns-on-ubuntu-14-04/

Host your own DNS or use a DNS specialist company?

Weird situation, always something overlooked. How about binding it in config file to 127.0.0.1 and querying directly against that.  Be sure the process is indeed running.  I forget if it gracefully fails / notifies you when things go wrong. Let me see if another clean tutorial out there...

    The cesspit / chat thread.

Not going to catch any flack about Vanilla and LET from me :)  I like and dislike Vanilla.  It's ADHD in nature, as is Reddit.  Difference is Reddit has a search that works well and subreddits (mind you I am a low use person in relation to Reddit and not real fond of it)... Feels like Slashdot...

IPB has been rough to us here... Lots of breakage over time and the authors are meh, out to lunch, ship busted code, slow to fix. What forum or related software are you of good opinion of?

DOJ vs. Apple over Terrorist Phone

USA hasn't been free or right directioned since a bit during the 1960's... But even then situation in the States was a wreck.  It was the age of killing Civil Rights Leaders and the President.  USA is mostly a grand marketing / sales illusion.  True, you can come here (hopefully legally), break...
