    The gun thread

Slightly more on topic...although I am an NRA Life Member gun freak, I hate gun shows. Too much off-topic junk, stuff is overpriced, have to pay admission + parking, etc. Stopped going years ago. I much prefer either dealing with a good local dealer or buying privately.

    VPS for backup videos

If the provider never gets a dmca, how would they know? Certainly, using a vps to backup one's files is very common. If you're not publicly distributing, hard to see where you will go wrong. Or use dropbox, etc.

Is there a way to automate kvm re/installs?

OK, sounds like the best avenue is an distro-specific config mechanism like kickstart.  Thanks!

Is there a way to automate kvm re/installs?

In case I wasn't clear, I am just a KVM customer, not the owner of the physical node.  So you sign up for a KVM at a provider, is there any way to automate your OS install/reinstall like OvZ or is it always "boot from media, walk through the menu".

    Whatever happened to Xen?

It's all but vanished from the vps market, but big cloud providers (AWS, Azure, etc) use it.

Is there a way to automate kvm re/installs?

I love the pushbutton reinit of ovz. Is there a way to do something similar for kvm? Other than a custom iso or a homegrown "run this script after manually installing OS" sort of thing.

    Down to 4 VPS

So I'm curious about your apparently vast Tahoe-LAFS network.  Is that - your own personal files that you store there as their sole location (distributed, yes, but I mean "those files live only on Tahoe-LAFS") - a backup of your local PC files - a sync somehow of your PC files (a personal...

Who are your favorite higher-end providers?

KnownHost has always been awesome.  They're the managed side of RocketVPS. I also like 6sync, though they are only in New York (Telx - ok, technically NJ). I've never had an issue with Linode, either, and they've finally upped their plans to reasonable capabilities.

Future VPS Company Dead Pool Wager Hall

Not a fixed-width font, but I'd say it's either six characters long or contains a skinny letter (e.g., "l"). Also from the LET thread: http://puu.sh/6EuUS.png/ss%20%282014-01-30%20at%2008.00.40%29.png http://puu.sh/6EuU2.png/ss%20%282014-01-30%20at%2008.00.24%29.png

    Down to 4 VPS

I've simplified as well.  In the past, I had a grand virtual empire. These days: - Dreamhost for 95% of my endeavors and an endless sea of family members' blogs/photo sites/junk.  It's just easier to let someone else handle shared hosting. - BuyVM OvZ for "I want to do something custom at the...

    InterWorx CP Review

Looks very nice, and certainly more attractive than cPanel (man, talking about damning with faint praise  :P )

Future VPS Company Dead Pool Wager Hall

He's saving up his pennies to buy a datacenter. Chris stated there that ChicagoVPS is closing, but whenever asked, he dodges the question and refuses to answer.  Meanwhile, they continue to take 3-year subscriptions.  Classy.

Future VPS Company Dead Pool Wager Hall

The best part of that whole story is the vpsbycall guy saying "hey, you can just dial and if you don't listen, well the advertisers won't know." Of course, he's saying that in public. I'm curious to know who/what would advertise with the obvious knowledge that no one is going to listen...but...

    BuyVM Legal Defense Fund? LOL

No he didn't. Are you familiar with quotation marks, sarcasm, etc.? "you wouldn't be able to have an intellectual conversation with me. Its simple, you are not smart enough."   -- CVPS_Chris

    BuyVM Legal Defense Fund? LOL

The only possible grounds would be: Copyright.  But Solus is ioncube'd and they'd have to prove code theft, which is virtually impossible in this case. Patents.  But I doubt Solus has any patents on a VPS control panel. Trademark.  But BuyVM is not calling it "Stallion" and the look/feel is...

Which AD network is best for ads.

I think hosting-related words are going to be mighty expensive.  Perhaps if you pair it down to your subspecialty or geography it's more cost-effective, but you still have to do some math to say "I send $X for advertising, I get Y new customers, which is $Z in profit, was it worth it".

    BuyVM Legal Defense Fund? LOL

No, I don't think it does. First, price fixing is usually about raising prices - a bunch of vendors get together and say "we agree not to sell for less than $20".  That would harm consumers. Here, you have a third party (yes, just a minute on that) who says "I'm only going to list offers that...

    BuyVM Legal Defense Fund? LOL

This is so lame and desperate...ChicagoVPS is begging Solus to sue BuyVM over Stallion.
