BuyVM announces free SSD upgrades on all 256MB+ OpenVZ plans!

This news gives me a big pony in my loincloth. Still planning to bump BW on the 1G/2G?

    Cheap Dedicated Server

I've found my kimsufi to be a great place to run Vuze.  I don't use it for more than that, but I've had several boxes there and they've all been fine. Support is monosyllabic but fortunately they have a high degree of self-service automation.

Running a TOR Relay, Part 2

Thanks for all the advice in my previous thread.  I realized I had an affiliate credit with 6sync and decided to spin up a TOR relay there.  I have a spare OvZ at BuyVM as well so maybe I'll run two. So the 6sync box is 512MB, 2 cores, 2TB BW. Here is how I configured my torrc (thanks to Nyr...

iPhone 5s is the best iphone since the last iphone

Yeah, I just took a look at the operating system source code to verify this and-- Oh wait.  It's Apple. I actually think you're right but...I hate having to trust.

iPhone 5s is the best iphone since the last iphone

I have a 4S.  No phone since that one has had a single significant improvement. Seriously!   Apple phone since then are "it's 15% better" events. The CPU is faster.  It's 64-bit now.  Etcetera - who cares? A better camera...yeah, I can see the advantage there because I use my iPhone camera...

SecureDragon Changes Up Their Bandwidth Pricing

Got an email from SD that they've changed up their pricing. For OvZ, I notice they're provisioning a lot less BW, though the email says it's sufficient to satisfy 90% of their customers.  That doesn't surprise me, really - I doubt most people use the BW they pay for. Some before/after: 32MB...

How big a VPS for a TOR relay? (BuyVM OvZ or KVM)

Maybe I missed it, but what is the strategy you're using?  10TB a month of bandwidth + the CPU to support it for $5 sounds too good to be true, but I may be misinterpreting.

How big a VPS for a TOR relay? (BuyVM OvZ or KVM)

Thanks.  I wasn't planning on advertising tons of bandwidth - in fact, probably lower end of the scale because it is a VPS. I'm thinking a 1024MB, 4-core OvZ VPS.  Probably advertise 3-5Mbps?  Just guessing.  3Mbps (if I've done the math right) is about 1TB a month.  I know BuyVM gives 3TB of...

How big a VPS for a TOR relay? (BuyVM OvZ or KVM)

Thinking of running a TOR relay (not exit node) for general make-the-world-a-better-place purposes. - How big a VPS does one need to do this?  Disk doesn't matter but I'm wondering about CPU and RAM.   - Seems like KVM is perhaps a better choice than OvZ because you have more control over the...

Thought Experiment: A Completely Anonymous Web Site

Right.  Ideally, no deception is needed.  Because ideally, it shouldn't be needed. Now if I was working in some dissident movement under a repressive government, would I think twice about using a fake name to sign up for Gmail?  No.

Thought Experiment: A Completely Anonymous Web Site

"Forum" in the generic sense of the word - a place to speak.

Thought Experiment: A Completely Anonymous Web Site

That's interesting, wlanboy, but I was speculating more about speaking anonymous in the public forum (Internet), rather than speaking secretly.  Well, true, a TOR hidden service need not be secret...I guess it's a different path.  I hadn't really thought of that. I'm getting the sense the best...

Thought Experiment: A Completely Anonymous Web Site

So getting an reasonably anonymous email is still possible, I think - though Yahoo now requires a mobile phone number to sign up for email.  Sheesh! From there, you can get some sort of free web hosting shell account. Assuming you do everything over VPN/TOR (well, TOR to VPN actually), ssh...

Thought Experiment: A Completely Anonymous Web Site

I was talking with someone at lunch today about anonymity on the Internet and it sparked the question of whether it is possible to setup a completely anonymous web site. By this I mean that nothing in the creation or ownership of the site can be traced to a person.   1. You need a domain name...

    LET Hacked Again

LET is giving me the "overcapacity" error now. I'm wondering if LET is paying the $149/month or $549/month vanillaforums plan.  $149/month for a dedicated server for a popular forum...maybe...$549/month to host LET...ouch.

    LET Hacked Again

So is this "LET has been hacked a third time" or "we're still on hack #2". I thought it was back after hack #2 and Liam posted that loony thread about how all would be different now.   So I guess we're on hack #3.

    IP Board Advice

I used to run an IPB at BuyVM (I understand that's where vpsboard is). vpsboard is sometimes slow...here is what I did to make my IPB fast: 1. Use nginx & php-fpm 2. Use APC (and tell IPB you're using APC) 3. Tuned the heck out of MySQL.  Particularly MyISAM read parameters.  Give MySQL a...
