@sleddog I have seen commented out references to the cddrom in templates such as the ones from DO. I have not seen any reliable way to do this.

@Flapadar To clarify my question: Assume you are in front of a terminal and you want to determine if the OS (Debian in this case) was installed from a template or from an ISO. What tell tale signs would you look for to determine which way the OS was installed?

What I don't get is why the military disclosed the fact that this was the way they found the location. You would think to keep it hush and allow ISIS to continue with the selfies and social media postings.

Hey guys, Is there some way to check if a specific install was made with a template as opposed to a manual install. The system in question would be KVM and the OS would be Debian 6 / 7. I'm looking for any files from a template that would not be present in a manual OS install or vice versa...

@CoMBoZo one thing that you need to be aware off, and it happens all the time with names...some names don't translate well. In this case the word "bozo" in english means a fool or a senseless person. If your market includes an english speaking audience, the name "combozo" does not instill...

Does anyone have a shell command to query the ARIN whois server for a list of CIDRs that belong to a SAN. I just can't seem to find the correct switches. In other words, something along the lines of (this obviously does not work): whois -h whois.arin.net -T route ASXXXXX
