ChicagoVPS 256MB "Basic Holiday Promo" $12/year OpenVZ VPS

I've had this box for almost 6 months now, mostly as a personal web server and BNC. I noticed the issues most when I was using the BNC, but alas. I'm going to repurpose it for DNS.

ChicagoVPS 256MB "Basic Holiday Promo" $12/year OpenVZ VPS

Sorry for the confusing language. I literally wrote that at 2am. It's pretty much 99% with some blips here and there.

ChicagoVPS 256MB "Basic Holiday Promo" $12/year OpenVZ VPS

Yeah, I know all of it with ColoCrossing, Chris, Shovenose's bad experience with them, but let's have an honest review of their VPS service. tl;dr: It's really not half-bad, but they need some improvement The meat: the review Provider: ChicagoVPS Virtualization: OpenVZ R/B/D: 256MB/100GB/10GB...

What email service do you guys use?

I know there's a few hosts using Amazon SES. If you meant personal email, I normally used Gmail but since have started switching to my own mail server.

    Looking for high-storage, high-BW VPS

I did contact Backupsy -- they said $13.50/month in Buffalo. I didn't take it.

    Favorite OS for your VPSes?

Pure-bred Debian. Server and desktop. Less tech-savvy family use Apple products ( :(), Ubuntu and/or Winblow$.

    Looking for high-storage, high-BW VPS

Okay. I don't exactly need 33TB. 6TB would be good as I'll also shove this to my home connection periodically. Hope that helps. The reason why I need this VPS is because I'll soon be building a larger NAS device at home to store backups (on the order of several TB) but I don't have a great...

    VPSWiki.us Looking For Providers History!

That looks like something that Semantic MediaWiki would do well, but DokuWiki is a lot lighter and with a few tweaks and here it could do it too. By the way @Mun, the default DokuWiki skin looks drab.

I'd get it if I didn't have my build already mostly done :$ My little brother might want it, I'll have to ask him.

    VPSWiki.us Provider Classification

This is what I consider "LEB": The lowest plan available is less than $3/month, allowing a bit of leniency to allow BuyVM/RamNode to be listed without being considered "high-end" The provider uses mostly provider-assigned IP space. Now, there's plenty of LEB hosts that have their own IP space...

    Incerno giving away free IPv4?

It worries me a bit since Incero recently got a extremely small allocation recently (a /22 obtained just weeks ago) and now they're pulling this off. Either they managed to boot off a extremely high IP user or something.

    Thoughts on Newegg

I ordered parts for my custom build mostly from Newegg. They're epic.

    Unsolicited Domain Transfer Requests

DROA is well known for sending these types of mail. I'd just ignore it.

    VPSWiki.us

DokuWiki is great. I've managed MediaWiki before, and it is very difficult to deal with all the spam that hits MW sites. DokuWiki is spammed far less and I really like it better, to be honest.

    Customer Support Response Time

I'm usually pretty patient -- I'm usually willing to even wait more than 24 hours. IRC support (especially for FOSS projects) has basically made me into this state.

Or secure the network using WPA. Now his CPU and/or wireless card will need to take a slightly bigger hit.

    LR Under Attack

I could see some PTC sites going down. There has also been a lot of phishing related to Liberty Reserve lately; I guess they got tired of PayPal?
