Ubuntu 14.04 OpenVz Memory Reporting Oddness

I did, and I don't see a difference. To be clear, this issue isn't restricted to Ubuntu 14 -- my initial post is wrong in that regard. It also affects Debian 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.

Ubuntu 14.04 OpenVz Memory Reporting Oddness

I still see this issue in containers with recent OpenVz kernels. Kernel 2.6.32-042stab102.9 shows 0 memory usage, at least with Ubuntu 12.04 32bit and Ubuntu 14.04 64bit. Note that the U 14.04 container did show memory usage upon initial install, but showed 0 usage after an apt-get update &&...

    256MB KVM

https://kihihosting.com may be worth a look. - Canada - KVM - 512MB RAM for $2/month - CC / Stripe payment Not SSD. For typical web/mail applications disk IO is fine, but you may find it slow if you have high IO needs. I have one, quite satisfied. Template installs, but he'll mount an ISO...

Ubuntu 14.04 OpenVz Memory Reporting Oddness

Yes, node & container restarted :) I think I've somehow achieved the ultimate objective: 0 memory usage.

Looking for VPS providers in North Carolina

I've been very happy with fapvps.com for ~2 years. Excellent performance and responsive, knowledgeable support. Only 100 MBPS though. They're in North Carolina with Dacentric.

What is your favourite linux-based operating system?

I started on RedHat, then moved to CentOS when RedHat became none-free. Then moved to Debian when CentOS was unable to provide an in-place upgrade from v.4 to v.5. Now I'm gradually moving to Ubuntu LTS, for no reason other than its longevity. Most webservers now run 12.04 which is upgradeable...

What one should know if planning to start public mail service

The only way (IMO) a free email service makes any sense is to offer it as an add-on service to known-good, existing clients who are already paying you significant amounts of money. Even then, it can be painful, because your service needs to be at least as good as Gmail or people will complain.

Linux swappiness - how do you set optimal value?

Just a note that this has new meaning with newer kernels (3.5). It used to mean "Don't swap unless you have to." Now it seems to mean "Don't swap." I use swappiness = 1 I first read of this here: http://www.percona.com/blog/2014/04/28/oom-relation-vm-swappiness0-new-kernel/

    Canada Parliament Shooting

One gunman, who first shot the soldier at the War Memorial then travelled by car to the parliament buildings. After two volleys of gunfire inside he was shot and killed by security. The soldier at the War Memorial was serving honour guard duty. He carried a rifle, but no bullets.

    mail-count script

The cron script gives you two counters to work with: number of mails sent this run (e.g. 15 minutes), and total mails sent today. You can use either to configure actions, e.g. send an alert, insert an iptables rule, shutdown the mailserver... by default the script simply logs numbers and takes...

    mail-count script

This is something I've been working on lately, wondering if anyone is interested. It's called mail-count, and consists of a bash script that examines a server's mail log periodically via cron, and a PHP script to show the results. It's focused solely on numbers -- the number of outgoing SMTP...
