Google: "Gmail users shouldn't expect email privacy"

Umm, which part of this is news? I though it was common knowledge.

VPS with a single SSD as storage

Yes RAID can fail. But more often it provides a fallback. When a single drive fails, there's no fallback, nada, nothing, zip. RAID isn't a 100% solution but it's a damn site better than a single drive for catastophic failures. For some buyers this offer might be attractive, for others, not. It...

VPS with a single SSD as storage

Fine. That allows consumers to decide. Don't forget the POOF! bit :)

VPS with a single SSD as storage

OK, thanks. Then I think it your success depends on how you plan to market it. RAID is a standard, even with most lowend hosts. So if you offer something without RAID then you need to clearly state: "warning: your VPS could go POOF! at any moment, and you will need to rebuild from your backups."

VPS with a single SSD as storage

Well I'm confused. Will my VPS be RAIDed or not? The topic of your post says "single SSD" but now you're talking about RAID5...

VPS with a single SSD as storage

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I make my own backups, so I can restore if need be. But any reputable host today needs to provide some level of raid to avoid single-disk failure being immediately catastrophic.

Removing 3rd Party "Spyware" from vpsBoard

https://github.com/clearcode/Google2Piwik Haven't used it myself, though I do use Piwik quite a bit. I'd really recommend you put it on it's own box and read all the stuff about tweaking for high traffic...

    Providers that need reviews

Every VPS that I've purchased in recent history has worked fine when first deployed. The real test of a provider is consistency and reliability over time. The truly valuable reviews are those that span months. Buy > Review is IMO pretty much meaningless.

    Status 2

A useful metric for measuring the performance and "busyness" of a VM is iowait. You can grab it from the first line of /proc/stat and compare the values over a time period (e.g. 5 minutes) to get a measure of recent IO performance. http://www.linuxhowtos.org/System/procstat.htm

    What was your first computer?

8086 processor Dual 5-1/4 floppies No harddrive 12" monochrome ('amber') monitor PC-DOS (an IBM release, pre-Windows) WordPerfect Ventura Publisher dBase Later got a 10MB harddrive and a copy of Windows 2.0, installed it and toasted the system. Took 2 days to recover. Later still, downloaded...

ErrantWeb - Troy, MI & San Diego, CA - OpenVZ - Starting at $10/year!

Bought one in Detroit a few days ago. It's been perfect. If every OVZ provider could deliver service like this the world would be a better place :)

List of reliable sub 20$ per year providers

I don't know how you define "reliable", but I suggest you strike BlueVM from the list after the recent & ongoing NY KVM fiasco.

Reserving Disk Space you Purchased from the Oversold VPS providers

Probably a waste of your time. If the host is overselling this much, you're going to encounter all kinds of disk i/o problems. 100 GB of disk space "reserved" on a container with crappy i/o is useless. Just go get a better vps.

Your new VPS is provisioned, what is the first thing you do once you connect?

At an SSH login: 1. Setup an iptables firewall, particularly for SSH. 2. Set a new root password. 3. Review installed services and remove those I won't be using. 4. Update. 5. Configure for the intended use. 6. Use :)

    Incero Review - AVOID

God what an embarassing thread. Shovehost, I've defended you in the past at LET, but never again. Mostly what pisses me off in that you launch this "BetterVPS" brand with copious promises, when in fact you don't have a clue what you're doing. It's blatent false advertising. This is the kind of...

    KVM BLOWOUT 512MB RAM $30/yr 1024MB RAM $6/month - Crissic Solutions, LLC

Sign of the times. Hopefully we'll see more security-aware offers like this. I've been with Crissic for a month or so with an OpenVz VPS and it's been stellar. Good luck with the KVM offer. Wish you had a 128 low-end deal :)
