    Managed VPS

My advice would be: Buy another domain name and setup an identical system on testing VPS. After some time (about a year) and you feel confident in your abilities to deal with the different scenarios that you will face then go the un-managed route. Learn to use the shell (command line), don't...

    Red Hat, Inc Aquires CentOS

If they are going to use as a sort of test bed, then that means the disconnect will be gone.

    Red Hat, Inc Aquires CentOS

I agree with drmike, CentOS might die a slow death. Why would Red Hat keep such a competitor around? In the mean time, it will likely mean a mass migration to some other distribution. This is really interesting...

    Auto installer for small vps?

I know this is not the answer you are looking for but: Instead of relying on what someone else feels should be installed or not - why not write a script yourself customzied for your own needs. This is part what makes the *nix OSs as great as they are.

The difference with ubuntu and debian?

Debian = one of the original Linux distribs....long time between updates. Packages tend to be older. Ubuntu = built on Debian...faster updates. Packages tend to be more up to date. Ubuntu started as a desktop OS although now they offer a server version.

Security: New VPS Account Info and Emails

That's the issue at stake...when email is sent, it travels through unsecure connections (server to server) before it reaches its destination. So no, email can't be trusted.

Security: New VPS Account Info and Emails

My post was not because of a "mistake" I made. I was pointing out an obvious flaw in the system which in today's world should not be part of normal operations.

Security: New VPS Account Info and Emails

I understand that, but my point is: Why send the username and password to begin with...just send a link back to the provider's site and then you can retrieve this info.

    04Jan Outage

A cable just doesn't fail in the middle run without outside influence. That cable looks pinched or chewed (rodents) which broke through the insulation and shorted out. Edit: Actually that cable looks cut...look at the sharp incision on the left side.

What are your RAM limits for different use cases?

128mb = central log server, website backup and development 256mb = main production web server -- Debian 7 x86/nginx/php-cgi/mysql I hover between a low limit of 256mb and a high end of 512mb (if I find a good deal only) for my VPS stuff. At the office I have a bare metal FreeBSD w/ZFS backup...

    The Good VPS Provider thread

Sorry to be an a** but: The "most dependable" implies there is a comparison somewhere...between which brands? Which tests did you run? Were they speed benchmarks, compatibility testing? I am not saying your comments are not legit, just that they sound like a commercial.
