    vpsBoard Theme

^ Other than "View New Content" itself "Mark Community Read" is the function I use the most often here.

    VMBox.co – $5/month or $40/year 2GB OVZ in US(PHX or LA) or NL – Free Wildcard SSL

It says "Free Wildcard SSL" in the thread title, too.

    vpsBoard Theme

I'd take that over the 2013 theme!

    vpsBoard Theme

Yes please! I was wondering what happened to the 2013 theme... that wasn't the best either but it was at least easier on the eyes than this. There are some really fantastic professional looking IP.Board skins out there if you're willing to pay a bit.

Vultr - What hardware exactly are they running on their SSD nodes?

    That's from DO? I just spun up a droplet and got this: root@do:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 62 model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2630L v2 @ 2.40GHz stepping : 4 microcode : 0x1 cpu MHz...

Vultr - What hardware exactly are they running on their SSD nodes?

Well hey, DigitalOcean recently stopped masking their CPUs, and Vultr seems real intent on copying DO... so maybe we'll know for sure soon?

Another reason to dump Verizon - always trackable super cookie

I'm on Verizon and it says I'm not being tracked either.

    The cesspit / chat thread.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's true. FraudRecord's rules are in their TOS and "Public Threats" is one of their "definitions of misbehavior" (and misbehavior is what they say they're about, rather than just fraud).

    OVH vps, kimsufi

OVH know the Classic VPS isn't up to par. They recently ended a pretty lengthy beta test of a new infrastructure based on RunAbove and it was MUCH better than the current product. I don't know when they plan to roll it out but I'm very hopeful -- a bunch of OVH staff participated on the testing...

    Ode to Outlook 2013

"Outlook data file cannot be accessed"? That's a pretty common error when moving profiles. Did you try this? http://itissolved.blogspot.com/2012/07/0x8004010f-outlook-data-file-cannot-be.html The specific instructions there are for 2010 but the same fix works for 2013.

A visual comparison of provider's and their custom control panels. Lots of screenshots!

Of other providers I've used that have at least some sort of presence here: Cloud.net, OpenITC, Vultr, and Wable all use integrated, completely custom panels. Bandwagon has a custom panel for VPS management but uses nonintegrated WHMCS for billing.

Proposed updates to rules -- A discussion

I think that would make the most sense. There's a definite benefit to the initial post count requirement in that looking at post history can give potential buyers a bit of insight into new providers. If I check someone's posts and they've posted nothing but spammy crap, that tells me it's...

Should hosts provide a backup service?

I'm a fan of the "here's some free FTP backup space for you to use as you'd like" approach. Prometeus does that with their VPSes, as does Online.net with their dedicated servers.

What do you use for monitoring the load?

I've stopped using self-hosted monitoring software. NewRelic is my go-to now. ServerDensity's pretty nice too.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday isn't too far away. Who had the best deals last year?

Best deal of the day so far is the return of Online.net's ridiculous €1.99/mo Kidechire: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/805555/#Comment_805555 http://www.online.net/en/dedicated-server/dedibox-kidechire There's also a pretty nice 2x2TB HW (!) RAID server for €19.99/mo...

    Which nameservers do You use?

Google's. I wish small providers would stop using their own nameservers and just pick one of the reliable public sets. I've had a provider's nameservers not resolve something correctly way too many times.

QR Codes - Using them yourself or just another dead fad?

QR codes were one of those weird things where marketers thought they'd hit the jackpot but consumers never showed much interest. The last study I saw said just 21% of people have ever scanned a QR code, and only 2% scan them regularly. Anecdotally, I find even 21% hard to believe. Obviously...
