Rage4 "Prey-as-you-go" extortioncast DNS business model

Now that is quite serious. Domain registrar gave you personal details without a court order, and then authorities(what country?) confirmed the names for you. They had to match clients vs IPs from their ISPs. And all that took place without a court order? Because I'm pretty sure nobody in Europe...

    OVH vs Hetzner dedi

Hetzner is fine if you don't plan on getting DDoS'd. If you get hit on Friday you have your IP nullrouted until Monday. Nice way to ruin your weekend.

    DDoS Protection Sites?

Not necessary. Having a good network provider with big network who can do ACLs on the core network plus a few 10GE servers is enough to handle up-to 100gbps of UDP and 10M pps of SYN if you know what you are doing. Investment < 1000eur/mo.  Remember, incoming bandwidth is not billed. Big...

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

Thanks Devon.  I already wrote my own script for this, though. Hope it will come handy for other providers.  Cheers :)

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

Update: Looks like they are not going to fix this. BugZilla updates(status changed to WONTFIX): "This is the way it works. Dynamic instant downsize would require much more resources, i.e. ploop would be way slower. If this is what you need, do vzctl compact from cron."   "I mean, vzctl...

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

All in all, ploop is a major improvement compared to simfs. There are still a few issues to be sorted out, though. The biggest one being ploop containers don't shrink down when files inside them get deleted. While df inside container shows accurate results, /vz/private/cid/root.hdd/root.hdd...

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

That was related to latest OVZ kernel, not ploop.

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

FLY, the script fails on a small amount of containers due to unexplained reasons. I talked to Devon and other WHT guy who experienced with ploop and none of us could explain it. It was only 1-2 per 100 containers in our case. vzctl convert worked for those, though. If you want to minimize the...

Heads up: OpenVZ updates will probably break your system

Nice script but doesn't work as expected.  I took a while and fixed for everyone else who will need it. The script does a nice job :) #!/bin/sh # ./convert VEID rsync_options='-aHv' partition='vz' if [ ! -e /etc/vz/conf/$1.conf ]; then echo "Virtual server configuration file...

    DDOS protected transit?

Do you just want to resell protection or make your own systems? Just GRE via Staminus or CNServers like everyone else does? It will be decent protection and won't break your wallet. If you are looking for your own systems let me know. I can give you some suggestions as we recently implemented a...

$200 if somebody can solve this IP problem.

If you still haven't figured it out in the meantime, you can use the following iptables rule to hide OVZ Node IP from traceroutes executed against container IPs.  iptables -A OUTPUT -p ICMP --icmp-type 11 -j DROP

Dear Spamhaus, why can't you group providers right?

Spamhaus goes after ASN owner. If you have RIPE PI or swip'd PA(at least /24) you may be able to arrange something with spamhaus directly and they will contact you directly in the future. Speaking from experience. Of course, there may be some exceptions here and there.
