    @Nett How does making your VPS unrouteable count as protection or mitigation? Protecting other clients yes, but advertising it as protection to the buyer implies it protects the buyer.

    I use VMware's ESXi for personal usage but the free license has a max of 32GB of RAM so if you go above that go with KVM.

    @ellisluk rule of thumb is if you need to call for pricing then it's not a budget solution. That pricing looks to be a few hundred times more expensive than CrashPlan.

    If the motherboard dies, restore from CrashPlan. ;) Synology has an app for CrashPlan (and multiple other options like Amazon's Glacier).

    Use CrashPlan for secondary or tertiary backups. I backup to my NAS, then to 2 different VPSs, then to CrashPlan so CrashPlan is my last line of backups in case everything else fails horribly. I also use CrashPlan Free to backup from all of our home computers to the same VPS that syncs with...

    I liked Trellis when I was looking for a standalone help desk a few years back. Unsure what the status is for them but if I remember they released their 2.0 on GitHub so it's completely open source.
