    (UK) Ten Identical VPS's needed

Not that I'm in any position to accommodate you, but I am curious as to your budget, as I'm sure providers will be.

Route SSH through one connection, everything else through another

So as some may recall, I had trouble with the connection at my college blocking everything but ports 80 and 443. So I got a FreedomPop stick, and it's great. Full access and all that, but limited bandwidth and speed. My college's network is limited in terms of ports, but it's fast and, for my...

    FrontRangeHosting Review

It should also be noted they own their own IP space (AS54856), dual-homed. No problems there!

What is size of your Monitor?

Before I moved to college, I had 2x 20" 1600x900 monitors. Not a bad setup. They were attached to my desktop, which I didn't bring. Instead I have a laptop with me with your standard, underwhelming 1366x768 display (14" instead of the usual 15.6"). :( The color is lousy, the viewing angles...

    SSH on restrictive networks

How does that work? Is this legit? Really free?

    SSH on restrictive networks

Yep, thanks @ for your help. Well, considering that the demo failed, I'd assume they use some port that, again, is blocked. Too bad, does seem like a nice system. Curious if anyone knows/can come up with any security risks from running SSH on port 443. Practically, of course, with SSH on 443...

    SSH on restrictive networks

OK, if SSH doesn't work, I'll see about getting my friend to set up OpenVPN instead. Good idea. Any others?

    SSH on restrictive networks

So I've just moved to college, and apparently the network here blocks all ports except 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS). Right now I'm having someone not in this network try to set up an SSH server on port 443, but I'm concerned the firewall will be too "smart", and recognize that, hey, this ain't...

    vpsBoard advertisements and availability

Thanks for all the explanations that have been provided. I just want to ensure transparency in the handling of funds. I have no doubt the money will quickly leak out somewhere - somewhere useful - I'd just like to know where.

    vpsBoard advertisements and availability

Nice! You were certainly right about this being a steady, sure source of income from the site. But on that note, I've been running the numbers, and am having trouble seeing how the amount needed to run this site could come anywhere near the $1,120/month you will receive from these ads. Let's...

    vpsBoard advertisements and availability

Just reloaded LET a few times and sure enough, it's still there. On a more serious note, will it continue to be a "PM me to request ad space" type thing, or will you set up an interface for providers to work through. And for payment, what methods will you accept?

    Dewlance™ - 650MB RAM - XenHVM SSD VPS - 4x vCPU - $7/m - Allow Minecraft

It looks very unprofessional to use @gmail.com addresses in there. Just sayin'.

    vpsBoard advertisements and availability

This brings up another point: not that I expect it to be an issue, but I imagine you will be screening each proposed ad to make sure there's nothing wrong with it? And of course notifying the poster if there is?

How do you secure your server(s)?

Undoubtedly the most secure so far. Here's what I know I should do: minstall (dump all unnecessary/possible vector services that way), reinstall SSH with root access off, run on a high port with key-based login only using a frequently changed password-protected key. But I don't do that. Just...

Linux VPS cheat sheet. Linux commands for CentOS/RHEL and Ubuntu/Debian

A few more: nano [filename] - opens the nano editor to edit the file. After editing, Ctrl + O saves the file, and Ctrl + X exits. For testing: dd bs=1M count=1024 if=/dev/zero of=test conv=fdatasync - copy 1GB of test stuff to the hard drive for disk speed test wget...

    vpsBoard advertisements and availability

I'm actually looking forward to seeing this implemented. Providers often link to good deals with their ad spaces. And I'll feel good knowing that the site is supported. Question: can non-providers buy ads, like to promote VPS-related projects/software/products? I might eventually in that case.
