    Windows System Administrator

I'm a Windows Admin at my day job and it's a great job as long as you're not in charge of everything surrounding the servers. I don't even remember how many thousands of servers I manage with 1 other person at night, but as long as they get their monthly reboot they tend to be pretty stable...

PayPal refusing to process payments to VPN.SH?

I'm pretty sure Paypal started disallowing VPN/proxy services last year. I forgot all about it until this thread though but I'm sure somebody with more time on their hands can find all of the articles of them closing accounts for VPN providers.

Spamhaus. A good or bad force in the industry?

How many times has this happened to you? If you say more than 0, you're lying. Additionally how many times do you converse with Spamhaus a month? You're giving vague "examples" with no real evidence of anything really happening. For fairness sake, I say we keep this thread to personal...

Spamhaus. A good or bad force in the industry?

All of my interactions with Spamhaus have been awesome and super friendly (especially compared to other blacklists like SpamCop). While I read a lot about the blackmailing, I also read a lot about the good things they do like block legitimate IPs for companies that protect/encourage spammers so...

Which is safer? Using a VPN specific service or a VPS to tunnel traffic?

That's false. Hosting providers (and government agencies, law enforcement, etc...) have full access to your data on your VPS if they needed to (read: court order). Sure, you can encrypt your VPS, but all that means is your hosting provider will need to run an extra command to get to your data...

    Let's talk retirement.

That depends on the location. In Florida, you can buy nice houses all day long for dirt cheap (<$100k) while here in Colorado, a decent house won't be on the market for more than a week. It's at the point that it's cheaper and easier to build a house brand new than it is to find an already built...

    Let's talk retirement.

I think this is crucial. Right now my student loans outweigh all of my retirement accounts as well as my mortgage (not combined, but individually which is still depressing). Luckily most of my student loans are government loans so the ones that aren't paid off in 10 years are forgiven as long...

    Let's talk retirement.

But we're talking about now, not 50 years from now. As time passes the length of the average life span will increase, but that's not what we're talking about in this thread. ;)

Which is safer? Using a VPN specific service or a VPS to tunnel traffic?

If you run the VPN yourself then you can set the level of encryption and protocol(s) you want to use. The downside to this is you are usually your own worst enemy in terms of security since not everybody can know everything (the same is true for VPN companies but the bigger ones have a few techs...

    Your WHMCS link sucks

You had this problem recently? This thread was posted last year.

    Let's talk retirement.

So I received a letter in the mail from the company that manages my retirement accounts and it was basically a pamphlet trying to get me to increase the money into my 401k but something struck me as odd, one of the stats they quoted was that most people live in retirement for 30 years... does...

123Systems.net VPS Serivice is down and down. No Complaint resolution

He did say he opened the ticket on July 9th 2013 so it sounds like it was offline for over a year.

    Do you have health insurance?

Yes I have insurance for me and my family through my primary employer. I pay $369.32 per month and my company pays the difference ($1061.76 per month). Additionally, my company gives me a pre-paid credit card that has $1000 on it that I can use towards anything health related including my...

    Free Socks From Sophos

Something about the way it encrypts the drives (or more accurately, can't encrypt them). We've lost many laptops that had to be sent back to be re-imaged trying to get SSD drives encrypted. Once it gets to the Sophos splash screen before the OS boots it errors out and dies.

    Free Socks From Sophos

Ordered the Nigerian Prince socks. :) I personally hate Sophos, but that's mainly because of the way it's configured at my work and how it's the sole thing that prevents us from getting SSDs on our laptops. :(

    URPad Claiming new WHMCS Vuln

And just like magic, it's fixed without requiring a WHMCS or SolusVM update.  https://www.facebook.com/urpadhosting/posts/658912127524782

Dear Provider, I'd be more likely to buy your VPS...

But what if there's no guarantee what node you're put on and not all of the nodes have the same specs?

Dear Provider, I'd be more likely to buy your VPS...

As a customer, I would much rather see Unixbence tests from a client versus in an advertisement from a provider. Keep in mind that different nodes will have different benchmarks so if I ran Unixbench from an empty node in one location and posted that in an advertisement (like @drmike said) and...

    Versaweb 10 Year Anniversary Special - Dual Xeon L5630 + 24GB RAM $49! IP's $0.10ea!

The site is working for me now also. I'll check my work proxy when I go back to work tonight. Not sure why it was giving me warnings all night, but it's good that it got resolved. :)

    Anyone using Tox?

Looks like it requires somebody to have friends to utilize it... maybe one day I'll be able to use it.
