Things to consider when choosing Colocation?

I would buy an IPMI card or have an iKVM solution if you're hosting remotely!! This will save you tons of money with remote hands, and be able to troubleshoot bios, reload OS yourself. Just be sure you get a separate network port for your IPMI/iKVM, most colo providers will give this to you free...

What are people using for domain registrations now?

We're still on Godaddy - just find coupons & open a partner account to get big discounts, still cheaper than namecheap if you do it this way.

FraudRecord Public Dumps User / Customer Info

Maxmind helps, but having a reputation directory for hosts to subscribe to with fraudulent emails would definitely be helpful. If an order gets flagged, it's pretty common practice to ask for a copy of government issued photo ID.

    Linode vs DigitalOcean?

We haven't had any issues so far with Digital Ocean (West) in production, coming from Rackspace (Central), where it seemed they had an issue or scheduled maintenance every 2-3 weeks.

Building 1U racks for personal lab

Check out the supermicro barebones -- they're generally pretty quiet plus you get onboard IPMI which is a huge plus.

    Ebay Security Hell Experience

I've gotten several of these, generally from people you sell to with 0 feedback.. Always ship with tracking and signature confirmation so you're covered under seller protection.  I've had this happen to me 4-5x selling on ebay just within the past few months.

    Raspberry Pi 2

I see, so probably not possible to do the server I'm guessing because of the power needed for decoding?  I was thinking of hooking an external drive to one and giving it a shot.

    Anyone Using / Hosting Plex?

I love plex, (Just bought lifetime premium) so is anyone here using it?  Do you see a market for hosting plex servers? https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/86836-plex-server-cloud-hosting/ Seems there's a bit of interest, but doesn't look to be profitable. On a side note - if anyone wants...

    OnApp

Does anyone know what specifically OnApp is using for their storage platform or is it proprietary?  How's Nexentastor working for you? We're looking into other HA / Distributed Storage platforms at the moment, trying to figure out which would be most stable and best with self-healing.

    Most popular location for VPS?

It's  very cheap, and therefore saturated with VPS providers. I don't think it's really a "preferred" location, just a location where you can get a good deal.

    Webhostingtalk / Inet Interactive SOLD!

I've been in almost constant contact with the inet guys so I'm guessing this is going to be a very gradual transition. I've found the 1yr corp membership to be the most bang for the buck so to speak.

Internet providers don't think you need fast internet. Cable industry opposes 25Mbps broadband defin

I'm tired of paying $400/mo for cox 100/20 business.  I'm thinking of pairing 4x residential lines together to get around the bandwidth caps.

What is better: Renting or owning your hardware?

m1000e not quite as cost effective as supermicro equivalents. Can't really beat supermicro on pricing, and I prefer their BIOS / IPMI interface over Dell.   Dell does have pretty awesome hardware, but their firmwares / bios always seem to be plagued with issues.  I can't tell you the amount of...

What is better: Renting or owning your hardware?

Check out the Supermicro microclouds - you can get 12-24 E3 nodes in 3U of space!  This would make colo a much cheaper option if you were to start out with just one cabinet, or less.

Our most popular locations are Chicago and LA.  Hope this helps :) LA is very popular for Asia clients looking for a vps to run VPN / Proxy services.
