    DMCA Talk at SlashDot.

Aldryic and Fran do a great job with incorrect DMCA's. Given the number of game servers we host, we get to see quite alot of Fake DMCA's. But never any that get forwarded from Frantech :)

update on $1 per year vps idea (32MB Club)

This thread is useful as a list of things NOT to do as a VPS provider. Writeback for /dev. Why? What would that achieve? Do you do alot of write to the virtual (udev) filesystem that is /dev? How about instead of trying to produce a fast write speed so clients don't complain you look into the...

Several No-IP domains seized by Microsoft via court order

This is probably going to hurt Microsoft badly. Alot of small - medium sized businesses purchase access to services like these to provide a dns alias to customers services (often coupled with router support). e.g router1-customer.no-ip.com I know of two such companies who use dyndns for this...

    Burst.net circling the drain?

I don't think Shartech is taking over them given I havent received anything about my server, Ill ask Tim for confirmation. I got this email from BurstNet today, it looks about right - lets play spot the spelling mistake :) Given that the L.A VPS I had that was acting as a monitoring proxy went...

    Burst.net circling the drain?

Got this email for my VPS service too, VPS went offline 2 hours before and hasnt been seen now for 5 hours. I don't expect Ill ever see it again (no big loss). I remember predicting one month for their demise, they outperformed this and lasted two. No big loss, I suspect their only remaining...

How did you come up with your company name?

Simply, there are too many companies out there that are Host${Keyword} or Cloud${Keyword} etc. The actual name itself was one of 4 3 letter testing domains I owned, originally just intended as a temporary domain but it stuck.

How to do payroll taxes for foreign employees?

Consider this: Do you give your employee benifits, who pays for tools, office space etc. Additionally who handles the business aspect (are you creating the invoice for them? Thats a no-no). etc I suspect for most hosting companies, their staff would fall under the independent contractor...

How to do payroll taxes for foreign employees?

Seconding what XFS_Duke said. Just be sure you get a proper invoice from them for every payment and that you keep it for the required time (check your countries tax authorities website for a start). I would strongly recommend talking to an accountant, their advice is invaluable. If you cant...

    Thinking about not using paypal.

Approximately 10% of payments come through Bitpay for us. We haven't overly advertised it. With Bitcoin most payments are greater than $50 as well, most Paypal payments are less that that. We support the Payza gateway which gets far less usage.

    Ideas and suggestions for vpsBoard

I tend to agree that restricting editing time is wise, however I would like to see the timeframe increased. It has happened occasionally that I wake up after a late-night post and see a spelling mistake. Perhaps revision history on posts - but that's probably an overkill.
