Hmm i wonder how this works. What stops people from intentionally burning their HDD every 2 years, and then getting the money to buy a new one? After two years you can buy a better HDD for the same price.

I think this drive comes with a 3 years warranty by default? Though it might vary by country.

This is an interesting study. It would be even more interesting to see similar statistics for enterprise drives and compare. Too bad BackBlaze doesn't seem to use any enterprise drives. They should have probably bought some, just to test.

What business plan? If you want to do this as a business, i.e. because you seek profit - don't. If you want to do it for some other reason, you don't need a business plan. But you should be ready to finance the server yourself then.

The problem is i don't see how he can prove to the DC that these are his servers. And even then the DC has a contract with the middleman, it wouldn't just go removing servers from their racks.

I don't understand how the gas can make the HDDs fail. The HDD platters are inside an air tight space. The gas cannot go there. Or was the gas corrosive and cause the HDD electronics board to be damaged? Doubtful, because then it wouldn't be just HDDs failing. I think that more probably the...

LIRs are given /29s, not end users. Unless these end users are willing to pay 1750 EUR/year and become LIRs of course.

I don't know how is it with ARIN, since i am in RIPE land, but here a justification would be needed for anything larger than a /48. For /48 or smaller - it can just be assigned. And RIPE is giving each LIR a /32, or even a /29 - you just have to ask.

WHMCS is good enough. Don't know why you need to replace it if you already have it.
