    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

Still if this was planned for months, the move from Dallas, TX to Scranton and a few months later to NC doesn't make sense when i look at the map. It should have been from Dallas, TX directly to NC.

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

Even before, when they had presence in multiple places i can imagine most of their staff was at their offices, not at the data center floors. I don't see why they need to move the offices when they move one data center. Actually is this the only one / last one of their locations? In all cases...

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

I don't see why the staff answering tickets, doing billing, sales, etc. should move. Sure, they need some staff at the DC, but not all staff needs to be near the DC.

special offer: Atom with 3TB HDD for $29/month and more (Raspberries)

Payment methods: paypal. And two drives are possible, but it's no longer so cheap then. And i believe that for backups it's better to have two different servers in two different places with one drive each, than a single server with two drives.

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

A winery converted to a datacenter would add a lot of meaning to the term "basement hosting" ;)

    Burst.net Continues their Implosion!

So do they own that DC in Scranton or not? It seems strange to kick people out of your own facility and send them to a third party one. With a price increase.

special offer: Atom with 3TB HDD for $29/month and more (Raspberries)

Damn, i must have been half asleep when i posted this and i can't seem to find the "edit post" button to fix the original post. Here is the correct order link for the 3TB server - https://www.fitvps.com/members/cart.php?a=add&pid=33 Sorry for the confusion.

special offer: Atom with 3TB HDD for $29/month and more (Raspberries)

Here is a special offer from us. It includes one small dedicated server. This are one-of-a-kind - we only have one of these motherboards left and they are not available anymore to buy, so the offer will not reappear unless there is a cancellation. For those who don't know our servers are...

Raspberry Pi alternatives? What do you guys think?

@peterw the bet part - Olimex is a Bulgarian company and these boards are made here. It is always great to be able to support the local business :) Just the GPIO connectors are too tiny for my liking (1.27 mm pin to pin spacing instead of the normal 2.54mm), but i guess you just can't fit 160...

Raspberry Pi alternatives? What do you guys think?

I also ordered one of the Olimex devices to test it - A10-OlinuXino-LIME and it looks very good. I will consider making some micro servers from these, in addition to the Raspberry Pi.

Need an OS recommendation for children.

Why don't you just block / stop the internet to the laptop? Then she can watch whatever movies are downloaded on the laptop, but not anything from the internet.

[C++] extreme fast counting of files in directory

Any programmer who decides it's OK to store several million files in a single directory shouldn't be allowed to touch a computer again. .

Preventing Outbound DDOS - Infected VPS and Blocking Ports

A compromised VPS should be turned off until the owner has time to secure it properly. Just filtering this obvious DoS is not enough, you don't know what other evil things it might do which you wouldn't detect immediately.

    WHMCS tweaks?

The custom warning messages are a matter of editing a .tpl file. Apart from that we have created our own server module for managing the Raspberry Pis - things like reinstalls, power control, etc.

a Raspberry Pi server done right // need two beta testers

Well, there has not been 7 days since i posted this offer, so can't pust a new one yet. Also it's not really a new one, it's the same one without the beta discount :)

a Raspberry Pi server done right // need two beta testers

We got two beta testers, one of them provided valuable feedback, the other one provided no feedback at all. Thanks to both of them. I will consider the initial testing complete and will add the Raspberry Pis in stock, available for ordering by everyone. I still want to do some extra checks...

The RaspberryPi Tutorials - Electronics IV

Nice tutorial :) Just a minor nitpick - "part IIII" should be "part IV" probably. Or just part 4.

Raspberry Pi alternatives? What do you guys think?

RAID1 over USB sounds like a bad idea. You will split the already small USB bandwidth in half.
