MR: Your interest in an Atom-powered dedicated server in Los Angeles?

@willie actually RAM is not getting cheaper, it's getting more and more expensive in the last few months. I really hope this trend gets reversed soon. But i agree that the HDD would devaluate faster than three years, in just 1-2 years 5TB HDDs would be normal, and maybe even larger will appear.

Blocking Tor Users and Tor Exit Nodes from Reaching Your Server

Adding thousands of linear iptables rules is a bad idea - every received packet will have to pass through this long firewall chain and this will burn CPU. Better use something like ip route add blackhole ... Besides by calling this from cron every hour, you will execute this rule "iptables -A...

Colocrossing's Million Dollar Routers are Switches... Top of Rack Server Porn. Old Cisco.

@Zach yes, 3550 can indeed route ipv6 in software, but it has some very slow CPU, so this would be a very bad idea. Unless all you want to do is ping6 some sites every now and then.

MR: Your interest in an Atom-powered dedicated server in Los Angeles?

@texteditor i know why SSDs are better than HDDs, but imagine the influx of angry tickets "Why am i not getting 500MB/s on my SSD!!! SCAM!!!".

MR: Your interest in an Atom-powered dedicated server in Los Angeles?

For $20/month of course people will want it :) But the 256GB SSD for the Atom is a complete waste, the CPU is not powerful enough to make use of such fast SSD speeds.

    BuyVM - Leaving Buffalo Early

Guys, i don't have any service with you in Buffalo, but please plan the move right (or at least better) this time! What do i mean? For instance, book early the new location and send some gear there. A spare router, a switch, maybe some new nodes too. I think you can afford to route some unused...

Just post the pics on FB and then post the links from fbcdn. I doubt this will be easily DDoSable.

Warning to hosting company providers - urge action taken

@WSWD careful with that, you never know who might decide to accuse you of collection child porn (and even archiving it on CDs).

How much would you pay for these?

i3-3220 and G2010 are not old CPUs, they are good Ivy Bridge CPUs which are currently sold by Intel. The dual quad core you can buy on the other hand is probably 3-4 years old, if not more. And the single performance of an i3-3220 or G2010 will be much better than the single thread performance...

    Well that was fun

The credit card numbers might have been encrypted in Adobe's database, but for sure they were not one-way encrypted. Whoever could get the database probably could get the decryption algorithm / keys too.

EaseVPS covertly sells customers to MyRSK

Yes, the hosting business is quite risky. There are some quite unpleasant potential customers out there, you have to control your greed and say "no" when your guts tell you to say "no".
