What's your Windows text editor of choice?

I've used Notepad++ for a while.  It's good though I wish it had (a) vi key bindings, and (b) used the standard Windows 7 file dialog (so I could go to Dropbox/SkyDrive/Google Drive/etc. with one click). I know there are vi clones for Windows...I keep meaning to check them out.  I like...

If you thought OVH support was bad before...

http://www.foxbusiness.com/personal-finance/2014/04/10/french-tech-workers-no-e-mails-after-6/?cmpid=edpick&google_editors_picks=true  Joking of course...I'm sure that off-hours (or heck, on-hours) they send tickets to the third world.

How would you organize dozens/hundreds of vids on a page?

I have a web site with tutorials for customers.  The videos themselves are on YouTube and I do the usual iframe embed. I'm struggling with the best way to organize the videos on the page.  If I just put them one after another, the page is very long.  Say, 100 videos at 360px high = 36000 px...

JQuery (or just Javascript) Widget Sets?

What do you use for JQuery widgets?  Or just plain Javascript. Things like sliders, spinners, progress bars, etc.  I've used JQueryUI and it's worked great - just wondering what other (free) options there are there. There are numerous commercial packages of course.

    No Disparagement Clauses

Elegant Themes Raising Rates: $39/yr now $69/yr

Elegant Themes is a well known Word Press themes vendor...surprised to see their annual subscription price nearly doubed ($39 -> $69). I like their themes...not sure quite that much.

    Self-Hosted Web Proxy?

What are some good choices for a self-hosted web proxy that works like anonymizer, et al? In other words: 1. Fire up my web browser 2. Go to URL I'm hosting on a VPS.  Probably htaccess'd 3. Type in a URL 4. Browse the Interwebs 5. Bask in ultral33t secrecy OK, step #5 can be skipped...

Hey Xen people - what is rcu_sched?

I'm running a Linux VM in the Azure Cloud.  I believe they use a customized Xen kernel.  I notice there are 64 'rcuos' processes and 64 'rcuob' processes.  There's also 'rcu_sched' and "rcu_bh" running. I was wondering what these processes are for...I found this...

Proxying a port (cPanel/WHM specifically) on another server?

I was wondering if it's possible to do this: server1.example.com is a cPanel/WHM server running WHM on port 2087 (this is not configurable per cPanel) server2.example.com has a proxy of some sort and by connecting to it on port 443, all traffic is magically passed back and forth to...

How about a favicon for vpsBoard?

Default IPB favicon makes me sad. How about a favicon for vpsBoard?  I put upwards of 45 seconds into this, so it could probably be improved... 64x64 .PNG and .PSD: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7993889/vpsboard_favicon.zip

    Automated "am I blacklisted?" check?

I'm looking for something I can run as a cron job that checks if any of my IPs are blacklisted. There are online tools but I want to script something that will check and email me.  Before I invent it...does something like this exist? (To be clear - there's no reason they should be blacklisted...

Share a filesystem (like nfs) across the Internet

What do you use to share a filesystem across the Internet? Like nfs, but  works on OpenVZ works well across the Internet In other words, server1 shares /foo and server2 mounts /foo and can reader/write to /foo. sshfs?  My only concern there is that I believe it runs over the ssh...

What's the difference between DigitalOcean and other VPS companies?

I've never bought from DigitalOcean - plenty of good budget and premium VPS companies, as well as good cloud companies (AWS, Azure, etc.) I looked at them today...so other than you can choose to pay by the month or by the hour, what's the difference between DO and any other VPS company?

    I need a new project/venture

The discussion about recreating Gatsby/hosted Ghost got my project energies flowing.  I've been thinking about what sort of ventures I might start. A lot of the immediate ideas are long since taken... - The world probably doesn't need another monitoring service, given that there are good free...

Monitoring (both inside/outside) - What Do You Use?

I asked about this some time ago, but the landscape changes so fast.   What do you use for monitoring, where monitoring is both:   1. from the outside - such as ping, checking http, etc.  There are a million products and external services (I like NodePing) that do this. 2. from the inside -...

MySQL or Pg in the cloud (as a service)?

I need a database in the cloud.  I have various VPSes and I'd like to coordinate the jobs they run, so I thought I'd have each write to a central DB.  I'd also like to store config, capacity planning, etc. data there.  Small stuff - probably less than 500M for a long time.   MySQL (or Maria)...

I Have a Business Idea for a New Type of VPS...But No Cash.

I had an idea for a new kind of VPS business...something I'd never seen before, and I haven't been able to find anyone offering it via Google.  I don't run a VPS business now - I do some shared hosting but not VPS. Unfortunately, it would take probably ~$15,000 to start (minimum - could...
