Depends. It's fairly common to offer both a GPL-licensed version (that requires redistribution of changes) and a (paid) version under a proprietary license that allows to modify it without having to redistribute the changes. That wouldn't work for BSD-licensed software, though.

Well, that's the only explanation I can think of... but that would mean that it technically doesn't require a license to install and use.

Good, starter PHP project (for LEB VPS hosts)?

Regardless of any VPS panel projects already existing, I would not recommend starting out with a VPS panel when you're just learning PHP :) That said, the state of software in the hosting industry is generally quite sad, so I'm sure there will be a host with an idea.

    Introducing Levarion: Billing/VPS/Dedi/Cloud Panel

Not so much refering to that data loss issue in particular, as it is a warning that there may very well be other undocumented 'manholes' in MongoDB. I'm actually curious now, what are your thoughts on CouchDB overall?

Then it's not open-source, but just readable source, a very different concept. One lets you freely reuse and redistribute the software, the other doesn't. EDIT: Huh? How are you going to 'require a license to install and use in production' when the source is licensed under a BSD license? That...

    CVM Update/Q&A

Providers have known that there are (security) issues with SolusVM for a long time, it just wasn't considered an urgent issue because nothing was being exploited in the wild. This was also one of the primary reasons for starting development on CVM; the security aspect. Whether people will 'be...

    CVM Update/Q&A

Since everybody and their dog have started writing VPS panels, I figured I might as well provide an update on CVM, answering some frequently asked questions. Is CVM still being developed? Yes. Why isn't it done yet? As the amount of donations I received for CVM were nowhere near covering my...

    Introducing Levarion: Billing/VPS/Dedi/Cloud Panel

That the automatic silent discarding of data beyond a total size of 4GB or so on 32-bits systems was only mentioned in an easy-to-overlook place on the site, doesn't exactly inspire much confidence in me as to the reliability of the rest of MongoDB.

Providers - VPS Control Panel Nearly Completed

I actually read over that before, and I have no idea what it is refering to. I'm pretty sure CPHP doesn't run on 100 sites at all, let alone 'hacker sites'. You do realize that CPHP is open-source, right? You can just look at the source, and judge for yourself.

How? Correct. Source? There's really not much of a practical difference between "accusing someone of something" and "making posts about things that would allegedly be the case, yet are not documented anywhere else, and only give a 'I'm not sure' disclaimer later on". End result is the same.

Okay, seriously - what the hell are you going on about?

Providers - VPS Control Panel Nearly Completed

Uhm, what? Still under development. Been taking on some paid open-source work to cover my living expenses (the donations that came in for CVM simply weren't enough to cover that), so I had to reprioritize things and reshuffle my schedule. Currently starting to get used to my new schedule, with...
