Huge increase in brute force attacks?

    Feeling strangely left out. But I suppose that's for the best. root@us1:~# cat /var/log/bf/ssh-2014.09.03.log 38 root@us1:~# cat /var/log/bf/ssh-2014.09.02.log 87 root@us1:~# cat /var/log/bf/ssh-2014.09.01.log 60 root@us1:~# cat /var/log/bf/ssh-2014.08.30.log 72 root@us1:~# cat...

Huge increase in brute force attacks?

Our has been sitting at approximately 40-80/day for each server for quite a while. I cant see any peaks on the server level that would indicate a significant upwards trend. I am guessing its localized. I am surprised you get so few.

Live broadcast video content from vps.

    Perhaps look at nginx -  http://nginx.com/products/streaming-media-delivery/ http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/ngx_http_mp4_module.html http://nginx.org/en/docs/http/ngx_http_flv_module.html

    Hello PHP 5.6.0

Glad to see some of the interesting RFC's made it into 5.6 Particularly the "..." operator will probably result in reasonable speed improvements to alot of software that provides user modification or modularity (modules, hooks etc - think wordpress, phpbb etc). As well as improvements in alot...

    Hello PHP 5.6.0

This isnt like 4->5 (object rework) or 5.2->5.3 (namespaces). Its not as major, it shouldn't be too backwards incompatible.

    Good email hosting?

Ive been running Zimbra for years, total cost is around $20/m for the VPS (DigitalOcean) its on - its free and rock solid. Maybe Ill eventually move if someone was to offer a similar level of service (a decent number of domains for aliases, a decent number of mailboxes) for a reasonable price...

VirtKick - a simple, open source alternative to SolusVM

Exactly my thoughts. While I don't have an immediate use for VirtKick myself, I do have a few ideas where a nice modular panel to handle the start/stop and end user control could be quite a good start. I think you will find that if you write a nice open source solution that's flexible enough -...

VirtKick - a simple, open source alternative to SolusVM

If I was to make one recommendation: Since you are planning on a comprehensive solution, it would be pretty cool if it was possible to still disable certain modules, preferably not even install them at all (aka proper modularity). If this is developed as clean as its UI looks it has alot of...

    Ideas and suggestions for vpsBoard

Bold, or even just a darker colour.  A quick play with dev tools shows that bold looks acceptable.

Question regarding OVH spam filtering and providers that use them.

Testing on clients? Eeek. I hope it works, and then I hope for a tutorial. :P Ive done a bit of looking into outgoing SMTP filtering, didn't really find anything which I considered production worthy on it (with the restriction of open source / free and running on Linux). I did find spamd for...

    Backup Network anyone?

Its impossible to get a second line in this locality unfortunately. The copper in the ground barely supports a phone line (techs report it barely passes compliance, and on some days it doesn't at all - but its hard to get a phone tech to verify that). As such we use cable, much faster sometimes...

    DigitalOcean New York City 3

I cant see the problem with it, although I would prefer them to expand existing locations and bring features to those locations. I can see why they would want to build a new network though (no migration, interruptions etc). Perhaps they will use it as a proving ground before upgrading NYC1&2...

My laptop is encrypted in case of theft. Usually I utilize 3/4g mobile data so WiFi sniffing is not a concern.

Thoughts on Provider -> Customer notification

I would not classify this as "client data" - more like "service configuration". And this has nothing to do with fraudulent activities or looking into backend servers (of course). Furthermore the claim that you make is a big one, I would like to see that law quoted as I can think of many...

Rage4 "Prey-as-you-go" extortioncast DNS business model

Atleast in Australia Debt Collectors are required by law to have identifying documents. This is usually a signed contract (sometimes digital signature) or in the case of large companies I have seen credit card details used as ID (had dealings with Debt collectors when Origin Energy "lost" a bill...

Thoughts on Provider -> Customer notification

@D. Strout Hmm that gives me an idea on how to combat #2 without restricting functionality. Thanks. Just to clarify we are not talking about looking into a VPS service, we are talking about looking at the configuration of a panel. Probably its similar to looking at the customers panel...
